O/S Daily Saturday 11 February 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, damp and dirty underfoot, we had snowy sleet yesterday that was on and off several times in the day but didn't lay at all, the air was absolutely bitter, more of the same forecast for today.
DH up and gone into work, both boys still in their pits. I'm enjoying peaceful cuppa and brekkie whilst on here.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had mushroom and cheese omelette and salad. Tonight we will be having chicken in black bean sauce, HM spare ribs, duck in pancakes, veg fried rice, and pancake rolls - I wanted to get some prawn toasts, dumplings etc but they had sold out, so will try to find some this morning en route back from town. I'll be heading out this morning to visit the building society.
I did get the ironing done yesterday, after I'd got back from town, put shopping away then went for nail appointment, was lovely to sit and chill for a while - my normal girl was there, and as always has done me proud. Later I'll be starting the declutter of the latest hotspot - see if we can at least make it less of an eyesore!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Up early for me at the weekend as I am off to work it been a long week this week and I am feeling it, only one more day after today !
OH and DD and little Evie are still snoozing but will do the housework when they get up, they can also sort the washing.
We have a couple of nice steaks for dinner OH will get a French loaf and we will have a steak sandwich with some garlic mushrooms which OH will cook, im really looking forward it it !
I hope you all have good days xx
Hetser hope the viewing goes well xx0 -
Morning all.
Very chilly again but no frost. The moon was stunning last night, so bright and high. Even at 6.00am it was bright enough to walk around outside by it.
I have no idea what today will hold apart from driving into town to deliver some papers which need signed and then posted. And that depends on the weather. There's always the dusting and vacuuming to do if I get bored!
I watched The Unforgotten last night, what a superb programme it was. Mark Bonnar was excellent when he was giving his story, moved me greatly.
Caterina - thanks for the encouragement. It was a very very simple IF thing but it made me disproportionately happy.
I'll probably come back later once I've done anything.
Meanwhile I hope everyone has a happy Saturday.0 -

redruby Scampi isn't a morning dog either, he likes a lie-inI'm always up early but my leg is stiff and sore for the first hour or so, so when I first got him I thought I'd have to get used to taking him out early with a painful leg. I needn't have worried, lol. Most days it'll get to 9am and I'll ask him if he needs a wee, he just lifts his head and his face says 'please do not disturb'. Occasionally he'll get up, amble out of the back door, do his thing then amble back to bed

I have flat wallsIt took longer than expected because of having to move cables and pipes. I think the walls were designed by someone who thinks flat surfaces are boring – even without paying too much attention you could see waves, lol. The beams for the ceiling boards were all over the place so had to be trimmed. Whoever built the house had them perfectly flat for the floorboards upstairs but must've forgotten that they would have a ceiling attached underneath, I don't think there was one straight edge. No wonder the previous owners shovelled on the artex

The sofas, telly and coffee table are back in place-ish. We still need to paint then put the radiators back on so haven't put anything else back yet. Hopefully the tatty, rusty old woodburner will clean up well and fit in the fireplace. It's cracked, so unusable, but I want it as a feature. Then we'll build/buy a surround.
In the middle of the work, I caught that horrible cold that's going around. I thought it was just the dust making me sneeze and sniffle, til monday morning when I woke up feeling awful. I didn't sleep at all on tuesday night, I spent the night at the kitchen table drinking hot drinks, with the back door open. Coughing made me light-headed and I thought my lungs were going to turn inside out. My stomach muscles are aching, at least they've had a good workoutHow can coughing be so violent?! I still have the cold but it's starting to ease off now, I really hope it doesn't linger for too long.
I'm going to spend the next couple of days getting rid of the dust, no doubt more will settle but I can't stand it a minute longer. The hall and kitchen floors are filthy so I'll sort those too. I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to doing housework

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Dank and miserable looking here too. This has been the longest winter ever! I noticed lots of daffy buds in the garden yesterday as I scuttled past so Spring can't be far away!
I actually stayed in bed till a sensible hour this morning. Very welcome after all the silly o'clocks. I'd love to quit the insomniac's club and get back to a normal sleep pattern every night. I fear though it was a one off.
No fixed plans for today. The replaced bed linen is to wash and put away at some point. It was quite expensive stuff so I will hang on to it and keep ringing the changes. Meanwhile I am loving the poppy design duvet I got, so bright and cheery. I am now on the lookout for a new tall vase and some big silk poppies to pop in the corner. One buy leads to another!
I need to brave the garage shortly and rummage in the freezer and decide what we are eating over the w/e. It's so blooming cold out there.
Meanwhile breakfast will be my usual poached egg and avocado and I hope the new ones have more taste than last weeks which were just tasteless. Even liberally sprinkled with paprika!
Have a good day all and HUGS to all the poorlies, sad and worried. Good luck with the viewing HESTER. Take care whatever you are doing xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning.
Well so much for a good nights sleep and lie in... I give up!!
I'm still tucked up in bed with a cup of tea as it's cold out there! Plan for today is a gym/swim visit I hope once I can summon up the energy? Did all my cleaning yesterday so only a load of work clothes to wash today.
Nothing else on the cards today...crumbs aren't I dull :rotfl:
If inspiration strikes, I will return later to update...
Take care all.
NB: My computer keyboard is driving me nuts...so many times it won't do capitals when I want it to and [STRIKE] i [/STRIKE] I have to keep going back to edit..sometimes I just can't be bothered but it goes against the grain not to see a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence!!!

Morning,
We havent got the frost that was predicted for us but havent been outside yet.Ly1a is quite fond of slobbing around in the morning too Tru but the rattle of food will always get her up,she'll go out for a wee after shes eaten. At the moment we're the only 2 up.DH has had the cold this week and actually had a day of earlier in the week. Its certainly a horrible one.Our friends want us to go out tonight but we'll see later, both DGC are staying over so we'll see what time they go to bed.
I had my lunch out yesterday with my oldest friend,we had a change of place and did a spot of shopping after. She was very pleased with her birthday pressie, which is always nice.
Probably Indian for tea tonight, and I'm going to get a pork joint out for tomorrow. We need to get some food shopping done this morning.Hope everyone has a good weekend xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning all.
Not wishing to brag or anything but we have snow. Not much but yes we have snow.
Grandson coming at midday for his overnighter. Was hoping to be in the supermarket by now but hubby is taking his time and I ay shifting till the heating comes on.
Going to the cinema later to see the new Lego movie. I wanted to get out of it by saying it was a 'lads trip to the cinema' but Grandson wouldn't go without me.
Hubby came back in a foul aggressive mood again last night. I told him to save his aggression for the building site. This morning, so far so good.
Youngest at work on a Saturday. Hope he was careful in the snow.
Onwards and forwards
Have a great day allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning All
Very cold here but no frost or snow yet. I've stripped the bed and it's doing it's thing in the WM. DW emptied, first time it's been on this week.
Nothing much to do today apart from paperwork, need to get the car taxed and pay the builder. Must also walk down to Ald!, I have no peppermint tea bags left!
Hope you all have a good weekend, stay warm and take care. XX0 -
So far I have changed the bed linen and had a complete cull of my T shirt drawer and undie drawer too. I still had too many left over tops from my full time working days when I would wear a fresh one each day. Now I'm a lazy so-and-so I really don't need 15 of them. And why I have nine pairs of socks is beyond me, no more!
What I've noticed is that most of my stuff is dark blues with an ocassional sassy red or stripey white one. I need colour in my life, it's almost Spring so I'm going to trawl the net for inspiration.
Not even out of pjs or showered yet, that's the next thing then. Who needs to plan? It's all organic! :rotfl:0 -
Morning everyone,
Very cold here, just been outside to fill up the bird feeders in my PJ's and wellies, bbrr. We had a fair bit of sleety snow yesterday afternoon but thankfully none of it stayed around.
Well the medical equipment people finally turned up yesterday to take away the bits of stuff, one more tick of the list and one step closer to getting everything done, spoke to the HA and arranged for a meeting next Thursday to check things over.
I did sleep better last night, mind when we first got into bed there was some weird noises coming from outside, DOH was convinced it was one of the dogs so checked but all was fine downstairs. Have done a bit of investigating online and we think it might have been a badger in the garden, we have been seeing some weird track marks through the grass over the last few months and some scrapes but have put those down to rabbits. Apparently badgers can travel up to a mile from their set and there is a big bank of trees at the bottom of the field, it also said they can sniff out peanuts from even further so maybe it's the bird food encouraging them, must admit am tempted to get a camera for the garden now
We really enjoyed our ginger prawn stir-fry last night, I added some Pak-choi which was delicious together with coconut cream and mango chutney, very tasty. Tonight is goats cheese and spinach pizza with winter slaw, my diet hasn't been the healthiest over the last few months so am trying to up my veg/nutrient intake.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0
