Just had an email from Sky, offering free broadband for a second 12 months....strange as I have just come to the end of my first year as a Sky broadband customer, and have just started paying £10 a month + line rental.....what is going on ??......Jack.

They know you are now out of contract and will like most sky customers will now threaten to cancel all. So they tie you into a new deal?

Offer I am on is free BB, half price line rental, 50% of all packages and they put £75 credit into my account.

Some others will have same, better or worse?

If you only have BB and line rental then good deal as all is free.

  • Thanks for that....so good idea to accept it then ?....just have BB and line rental, no tv or anything else....I thought that there may be a "catch" involved, but it seems to be o.k......Jack.

I read your post differently from the poster above yours.

I think your email is telling you that you'll get BB for free (not unusual for ADSL) but will pay for line rental. This is going up shortly to £18.99 a month

I'll be astounded if they're offering it entirely free.
  • Yes, just to clarify, BB is being offered for free, for 12 months, NOT line rental, I perhaps worded my o.p. incorrectly.....and although line rental is going up, it still means a saving of £120 for the year......apologies for any confusion......Jack.

Jack this is not a good offer, MSE ran a Sky offer in January whereby you could get Line Rental and BB for £12 per month for 'new customers' - currently on Quidco you can join Sky for what they are offering you for 12 months with a £70 Cash back, EE are offering £137.50 cutback for a 18 month deal at £22 per month with free weekend and evening calls for new customers - so don't accept offer, phone Retentions or Cencellations and get a better deal quoting offers from other BB vendors and don't forget looking at Quidco and TopCashBack sites, by way of example, in total my folks are paying £20 per month with Sky basic BB and unlimited calls, which was about the best on offer in January and have £50 Cash back.

Sorry did read your post as all free. Was surprised.

    Not a good deal!!!

And it ties you into another years contract. As above post, shop around then threaten to cancel if they cannot offer better.

They would not offer me anything at first then a few days before cancellations went through came back with a deal which was free BB, half price rental, 50% of all TV packages and £50 credit. I got them up to £75 as was keeping up with the MSE sky thread.

    So Haggle.

He's not a 'new customer' though, they've just knocked £10 off what he was paying and if (like myself for instance) is a very light user of the landline he may very well be happy with that deal. Going down your path can be very stressful for some folk and if he's happy then good luck to him.
  • Thanks for that....yes I am happy with the deal, we don't use the landline at all, and have accepted the offer, after thinking that our broadband was going to cost nearly £30 month, apart from the landline increase, it is staying the same, a saving of £120 a year....I have no problems with Sky at all so am quite happy with that.....Jack.

Oh that is no good at all, I would edit your original post. It makes it sound as if BB and LR free.

I thought it was too good to be true.
