I think YOU should message him to remind him who you are and explain what is going on. I know that if I were on holiday and received a request out of the blue to transport valuables for people I didn't know, I would run a mile.0 -

Why would it be smuggling?
If the ring was bought here in the UK I don't see anything illegal or secretive about bringing it back into the country that I know of.0 -
