Items Left At Hotels Abroad

We returned from Cape Verde on Sunday 5th Feb 2017, and realised we had left my wife's Diamond Ring in the room safe. After a few phone calls and emails to the Hotel and to Thomson's customer services we were informed that the hotel has got the Ring but they are not prepared to post it back to the UK because the postal service is not very reliable. I'm looking for ideas or tips on how to get it returned to us in the UK from Cape Verde.

doubt Thomson will want to be responsible for it either !
Only thing I can think is if you can find someone travelling there that you can trust to bring it back.
if all else fails and not very moneysaving but another holiday over there !

Thanks jhe, already thought of another Holiday but that wouldn't be for quite sometime. As you suggested,it may be worth trying to find someone going to Cape Verde who can collect it for us. Have emailed several Companies DHL, UPS, FEDEX not had much joy still waiting for replies.

They're telling you they don't want to be liable for the loss as the sender so I guess you're going to have to arrange a courier collection service at your own risk with some kind of disclaimer paperwork.

Is there a Courier you can recommend?

What will you do if you receive something from a courier and it was a different ring?

If it has significant sentimental value, I'd just go and get it.

Happy to help to try and find flights.

not clued up on international couriers but Have never heard of them .
Just a thought but if you post for advice on Tripadvisor Cape Verde Forum there might be a local that could offer advice, or even someone else who has been in your position.
Hope you manage to find a solution
  • Was there a Rep in resort from the Uk who might either be travelling home in the near future or have family/friends visiting?

Is it insured? it is worth contacting the insurance company to see if they can offer advise/help.

You can't be the only person to have found themselves is this situation. Personally I would not trust an item like that in the post, even post within the uk it is very expensive to cover/insure jewellery.

Its not really fair on a rep to be responsible for it, I doubt the travel company will allow their staff to be put in that situation.

I did a stint as a Rep and I would have been happy to help.
