If you arrange a courier OP then make sure you get adequate insurance (and that jewellery is covered). Also don't use a third party such as Parcel Monkey, contract directly with the courier.0 -

The Op and the hotel could do a Skype and he could confirm it was the correct ring. There are always ways around any problem if the will is there. I prefer to look for the good in people and I usually find it.0 -

I am pretty sure the travel company will not be able to help, I have read before on various forums people complaining that tour operators they travelled with will not help with items left.

Just a thought but if you post for advice on Tripadvisor Cape Verde Forum there might be a local that could offer advice, or even someone else who has been in your position.

You can't be the only person to have found themselves is this situation. Personally I would not trust an item like that in the post, even post within the uk it is very expensive to cover/insure jewellery.

Last year I left my dSLR camera and a few other bits in a (not posh) hotel in Tulum, Mexico. We were already at Cancun airport when we realised so didn't have time to go back for it. We were only flying as far as Mexico City, so I ended up paying DHL to ship an empty box to the hotel, have the hotel put my things in it, then ship the box to Mexico City. Cost me about £45 I think (unfortunately it arrived late to Mexico City and I had to get it re-shipped back to the UK, but I got DHL to do that at no extra cost).
You could try calling the DHL Cape Verde office (http://www.dhl.com/en/cv/country_profile.html) to ask if they can do this (assuming you trust the hotel, of course). I have lots of experience with Latin American countries with unreliable postal services, and firms like DHL are usually fine. Make sure the delivery is insured.
If you do this, you will need to make sure the package is declared as "Personal Belongings" for customs purposes and you will need to fill in a C3 form and email it to DHL - otherwise you'll be charged import tax/duty by customs.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

I would ask your Insurance Company. They must have some recommended companies they could suggest. ie Approved Courier Service. As someone else has stated this must have happened before.Thank you to everyone who has helped me MoneySave0
