  • I spoke to my Mom & Dads gas and electric supplier today, they have reduced their direct debit by £75 a month!! and they are getting a refund of £400 which still leaves them in credit...so happy for them. I wasn't expecting it to be this much. With my dad's new bank account having no fees they will be £100 a month better off :j

Hi, I hope everyone has had a good week!

I managed to complete some of the items off my to do list for this week.

    For Me

    - I checked my Next statement to find out what interest I'm paying, it was £18, £7 less than last month.

    - Re did my budget to include an emergency fund and for extra. I feel much happier about this now.

    - Started completing surveys.

    - I baked a lemon drizzle cake for my mom's birthday

    Business Goals

    - Finished sorting my work room.

    - Started working through the activities from the free online marketing course I'm taking.

    For My Mom & Dad

    - Filled in the forms for attendance allowance and the grant.

    - Took the forms to the Macmillan finance team.

    - Contacted their gas and electric supplier and got their direct debit reduced by £75 a month and a refund of £400.

    - I contacted the hospital and I got a parking ticket for £3, a saving of £37.

Only 3 days until ££ day :j I can't wait so I can pay some more off my Next catalogue.

  • - Cook a pot of bolognaise and freeze it.

    - Cook chicken soup and freeze it.

    - Open a 2nd Instagram account for my business and start posting regularly.

    - Write out a making plan for the week - sketch some more ideas - get the materials together.

    - Continue with the marketing course.

    - When I get my ££ make an OP to Next.

I find Instagram a great marketing tool. It seems to have so much more energy to it than Twitter and Facebook these days too.

My 1st month of my debt free journey has been quite a learning curve.
My attitude to spending is definitely changing for the better (I still have a way to go though)

    Things I've Noticed
    - I have lots of motivation when I first get paid, this wears off towards the middle of the month...I need to find things to keep me motivated.

    - I thought I could go without buying any non essentials for myself until my Next catalogue was paid, but not being able to buy the occasional bunch of daffodils or a treat for my family was making me sad. Since altering my budget to include a small spending money allowance and also an amount to go towards an emergency fund I feel much happier.

    Positives
    - Starting my diary and being inspired by so many on MSE.
    - Sorting out my parents finances for them and getting them a saving of £110 a month.
    - Completing a budget for myself and sticking to it for the month.
    - Planning for my business.
    - Making an OP on my Next Catalogue.
    - My total debt was £3867 it is now £3747

I'm looking forward to doing March's budget and goals this evening,
  • Instagram has been fantastic for one of my businesses (I have a direct correlation between instagram posts and sales made), not so amazing for the other one but still a useful 'supporting act' to help build the brand.

I have found the way to keep motivation for myself is to keep giving myself lots of little challenges - how low can I get the food shopping (and then using the extra from that week's budget to overpay debt), how many lights can I turn off, can I make an extra little bit on eb@y, etc etc; those kept me focused in the gap between my LBM and this month's paydays.
Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.
Divorcing, unclear on final debt total right now, but focusing on building a financial buffer zone.
