I disagree and think blazers are very practical. You usually get two inside pockets, which could be zippered and would be ideal for phones and money which are easily lost or stolen. Breast pocket holds pens and pencils. Side pockets for homework diary, letters home, chocolate, bus pass, lunch card, etc.

They provide reasonable protection against bad weather running between buildings without the bulk of an outdoor coat and can be shrugged off easily and hung on the back of a chair in a stuffy classroom.

School ones will be polyester and machine-washable, but even poly-wool-mix adult blazers can be washed on a cool and gentle cycle.
This: my boys all had a blazer and tie, but at their school the girls wore open neck blouses and jumpers. They did a consultation about changing to a unisex uniform and my lads all wanted to keep their blazers, which REALLY surprised me as they were not keen to 'dress up' at weekends!

And never mind some protection for the dash between buildings, many of the boys never wore anything over their blazers for the journey to or from school. It's astonishing no-one ever got frostbite ...

My eldest Son was guilty of this. My other kids would listen when i told them they would need their coats but eldest Son knew better. He'd take his coat when it was warm and refuse to take it when it was cold.

Still my kids school is far cheaper and practical than a school that insists on ties Blazers and leather school shoes

    And there it is.
