Phoned Tesco tonight and have taken my wife off the joint account so she can open a 2nd account, that's the only way round it. At least you can do it. Quite a wait to get through though!

That didn't work, the woman told me to wait until today to apply for my wife's 2nd account so as to let their system update over night from our joint account, too late applications on hold!!!!

I took it she meant two joint accounts with different account numbers would do the trick... and hardly unique.
    Person A: sole account 1
    Person B: sole account 2
Person A and B: joint account 3 opened by A
Person B and A: joint account 4 opened by B

    = 2 accounts each.

I'd be surprised to find that's allowed but perhaps it is.

I was told you can't do that as 1 joint account counts as 1 for each of you, which is why I had to change our joint account to a single one yesterday.
  • Surely, everyone in the country must be trying to open at least one of these accounts. 3% is not to be sniffed at, esp. with so few conditions. I wonder when Tesco will call time?

They've already called it. New applications suspended for the time being. I just missed out. :(

Yep, their staff don't appear consistent it seems, so it's anyone's guess until someone says they've done it.. academic for the time being.

Well their CS has managed yes you can to one enquirer and no you can't to another, so..?

The surprise to me is that there people on here don't seem to think that multiple joint accounts are unheard of - when it's certainly possible with plenty of banks.
