Have BT given me a get out clause?

Half way through a 12 month deal, £39 a month just for normal broadband and line rental, had nothing other than snail like speeds from it, appalling for what I'm paying.
Got an email from them today saying they are increasing the price, this part of the message caught my eye:
You don't need to do anything but if you want to change something or leave, and you're within your minimum contract term, you'll need to contact us within 30 days of receiving this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early.
Is seems too good to be true, but have they have given me a get out clause without me having to pay up the remainder of my contract?

We invoked a similar get-out-early clause with BT to drop their television service when they changed the price.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

As always when there's a mid term price increase, you're given the option to leave without penalty.0

Great, can't wait to ring them with the good news:rotfl:Current MFD 1st July 2026

They're expecting the call. That's why they've added that to the bottom of the email0

If your speed isn't what was estimated , then it's possible there is a problem and that could be on your own wiring or equipment, if the low speed is due to the distance you are from the exchange ( the further away from the exchange the slower the speed, that is just a fact of physics and affects all providers using this technology) so changing provider probably won't improve your speed
Unless price is the motivation, have you contacted your provider to get them to check if there is a problem they can resolve ?0 -

I'm 100% certain it was BT throttling the speed I could get. The best I ever got was 6Mb (which I would have been happy with), but the vast majority of the time it was around 1Mb with frequent drop outs.
Feels like Christmas being able to cancel six months early, gone with Talk Talk fibre who guarantee a minimum of 35Mb for £27 a month with £105 cashback for going through Quidco.
I never knew you could leave a contract early if the provider had a price rise, I assume they have to tell you by law otherwise I would have continued with BT unaware lol.Current MFD 1st July 2026

Guarantee?
We used to be with TT - they were good at talking the talk indeed, but walking the walk was different. Hopefully things have improved since then, so best wishes for your new provider.0 -

To be honest they can't be any worse than BT, who offered "up to" 17Mb (never more than 6Mb and usually 1Mb in reality) whilst taking £41 a month from me if I had stayed with them. We shall see.....Current MFD 1st July 2026

BT do not throttle speeds.
If you've went to TalkTalk fibre, you could have had Infinity.
Good luck in your ventures with Dildo Harding at the helm0
