Yep, the freebie compatibles are probably easiest. But Office Word+Excel 2010 Starter (reduced functionality) works well...(if a bit fidly to install)

Hi "AndyPix"
I currently use "Libre Office", thanks to Martin Lewis' previous advice, but unfortunately, with these free "Word" programmes, the format is different to standard Microsoft Word and so when I send a CV or letter, etc, to prospective Employers, their view of my application(s) looks very unprofessional.
Previously, it has been suggested that I save an item as a Word document, but that option isn't always available.
Also, if I create an item in Libre Office, (saved as "Word"), when I open it from the saved place, (eg, usb, laptop, etc,) it will not let me edit it or use it as a web document unless I go into Libre Office first, and then open a the file via them.
My biggest problem right now is that most application forms are written in Word, and so will not let me edit them (to complete).
Have you, or anyone else, got any suggestions or advice as to how I can do this without having to visit the local library each time?
Also, I am interested in your offer of "Office 2007pro" discs, but are they safe? Aren't they purely for trade or professional businesses? How would I be able to use one?
Please excuse my ignorance, but I can use computers fine in the office, but never have had to buy all the "components" to use, myself, before. I didn't think it would all be so complicated or expensive!
I see you ask people to send you a message/e-mail, but I cannot see a button to do so.0 -

When I click on AndyPix's user id, I get a menu which offers sending a private message as one of the options. (Though I'm still using the old view on the forum.)
Unfortunately, AndyPix currently seems to have receipt of private messages turned off :-(0 -
Hi "psychic teabag"
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I have tried saving everything to pdf before, but for some reason, when I save something in LibreOffice I don't always get given the option to save under an alternative stem, let alone pdf, I'm afraid.
Thanks for your help on how to send a private message. Hopefully, I'll get a reply to my reply (to AndyPix), in the meantime, because it wouldn't be "confidential" anyway.
Best wishes

If you choose File > save as... in Libre Office it always gives you the choice of what format to save it. Under the file name is 'Save as type' with a drop down menu. As long as you keep the format of your document fairly simple, if you choose to save it as a .doc or .docx it should look fine when someone view it using word.0
