If you are a company director Companies House publishes your full name, address and year of your birth - and the company details of course.
As I am one and have an unusual middle name - put my full name into Google and it supplies my address details as the first item on the list.
I would have though for such a concept as neighbourhood help forum then using real names and real address was a prequisite - otherwise what would be the point other than it being another endless talking shop type forum of moans.
That said I live in a village environment where everyone knows everyone else, we all have each others phone numbers, email addresses and virtually all know who lives where and indeed when someone IS away it is equally obvious to the rest that they are not around. I do appreciate though that it is very different in an urban/suburban environment.0 -
Nextdoor are really about making money from this, so apparently will soon be selling targeted advertising. Prepare for Spam! Also what is to stop somebody signing up and then flogging contact data etc for other members to Bill the Burglar or Sid the Scammer - they are making it a doddle to get this detail.

i feel quite bad about this company, there is only a 14% pro results on sitejabber about them , also they have lots of complaints and my US friends nicknamed them bully next door.
There is a petition i saw on change.org uk-parliament-close-the-uk-door-on-nextdoor-and-remove-the-welcome-mat
Not that giants like that take notice but maybe we can safeguard our information in some way
Me? im out not going to support that , obviously streetlife didnt sidetrack to read the complaints about it and got halo'd by the several million pounds they received selling it.
Hopefully someone can find it infringes some uk law and they wont be able to sell on UK information to people over there.
The new way of running things makes me wonder how many criminals and hackers use it to find personal information they can use to bully people , scam people and rally up hate like they seem to say on sitejabber happens in america from the siteSave0 -
I have used Streetlife for c.2yrs now and about six months ago joined Nextdoor. I was dubious about the lack of privacy on Nextdoor and coupled with the lack of participation, it wasn't long before I closed my account.
I'm not planning on moving over when Streetlife closes. It's a shame, I found Streetlife useful for recommendations, offering stuff to neighbours for free (we recycled a king size bed that way) and for contact with the local council.0 -
@IslandMan I verified for Streetlife recently by the postal route, and it was free.
Privacy concerns aside, I like Streetlife as local info, so surrounding neighbourhoods & the town centre.
It appears with NextDoor you are stuck with the immediate area, which doesn't meet my needs at all.0 -

When they displayed the 3 options, said costs were involved to THEM using the postal route, but clearly not us, there aim was to keep costs down, therefor the bank I'd was preferred. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I am not on 192.com I got all that info taken down, I am also ex-directory on the phone book, if you google me nothing appears, so although people say you can easily be found, getting my details would be quite hard for anyone to get. This is why I am so angry about this breach of my privacy, I hope they change their policy as like others this was a very useful site for local information.
Whilst you may not be on the open electoral role, which is the part that the council can pass openly to others you are still on the electoral role itself. A copy of the full electoral role including your details is available for anyone to view at the council offices. Anyone can view it by appointment, although you will be supervised to ensure you do not take photos or other copies, but it is available.0 -
There is a difference between finding out who lives at a particular address and finding out where someone lives.
Just because some information is available for those with the motivation and wherewithal to use systems, isn't a reason to make that information more readily available. Everyone should have the right to decide what personal information is displayed in public forums.0 -
I too have this quandary whether to go over or not. I have been on Streetlife for over a year.
It's been great for passing on info about tradesman, moaning about council services - road works etc. First name and surname is quite sufficient - for a wide area that streetlife covers, but nextdoor seems more localised where the street name is given, where the post is widen to nearby neighbours it is not given, nor full name.
What we needs though is some nextdoor users feedback, rather than ex-streetlife users.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
