Opodo holding my money hostage

  • Original phone call when I cancelled, agent stated words to the effect of 'yes, your flight is fully refundable less a £125 admin fee.'
    My flight was appx £900.
To complicate things we seem to have got a £140 refund into our account a few months ago. No explanation given.
I'm really concerned my insurance company will tell me to stick it.
It was a battle getting them to pay out in the first place and I had to threaten them with ombudsman. I had to agree that the figure they offered in the end was a full and final settlement.

What did the original booking confirmation say about cancellation?

I expect that may be the APD refund which it looks like Thomas Cook may have refunded
So it sounds like Opodo gave completely incorrect information re "fully refundable", requested refund with airline and passed on what they got back which would have been the APD...2 passengers?

OP, has the Opodo rep who contacted you on this thread come back to you yet with the outcome of their investigations?

If he/she has emailed you saying the tickets are not refundable then perhaps use that for the second claim with your insurance.

I think that will be your only route of action with what appear to be 100% non refundable tickets.

You should be able to however claim the APD back on the tickets but Opodo might then deduct their admin fee from that (£73-£25 per ticket).
  • We've had another email requesting all our information again (bank details etc).
It was for 1 person (return so 2 flights).

If for one person and two flight sectors I can't understand the initial suggestion for a £125 admin fee as that seems to differ from Opodo's T&C's.

At £800 for a return MT/TCX flight GLA/MCO/GLA that seems expensive!

Good luck in trying to recover some of the flight cost.

    Hello Mollynah,

    Thank you for your response.

We found that you´ve correctly cancelled one of 5 tickets for the regular flight/service of the airline.

A refund has been approved on November of 2016, we are talking about the booking processed on 2015.

I found we have contacted you requesting the bank details in order to process a refund on several occasions since the originally provided information was not correct or insufficient.

We will proceed contacting you via e-mail to assist you on a final step of a refund.

    Kind regards,
    Liv - Opodo
