Guy, Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I have been advised by a solicitor, who works at the company i work at. (can get advise but not use) to go to the small claims. he has given me paragraphs of the law to pursue.
will post the outcome.0 -
Where's my Android 7?!! Just checked there now, and My S7 Edge on EE still thinks it's up to date. If yours was the same, you shouldn't have been looking around for unofficial updates.
I guess whatever that Odin method was sent over 'custom' software. Knox is the security system. This happened AFTER you were having the initial problems, though.
A bit unfair because you only starting poking at the updates AFTER having all these problems. But it's the retailer, Littlewoods, that you should have been dealing with.
mine is sim free unlocked. btu.
the latest update for android 7 is btu.
The woman i spoke to at samsung support confirmed that using odin to update the official update is what tripped knox. but because knox was tripped they are unwilling to do anything.
updating via odin did not seem strange to me because when i updated my old samsung omnia from windows 6 to 6.1 it was similar to using odin.0 -
If you have gone outside the parameters of the warranty by installing software through a third party I can't see the small claims court going how you want it to go.
Isn't there a message that says doing this will void warranty or similair ?0 -
Odin is not an official Samsung updater .
Neither would the firmware that was downloaded be an official update from Samsung .Yes a leaked Samsung tool and probably a leaked Samsung firmware .
Key here is Knox tripped updating through Odin does not trip Knox .
Go to court and say yes i used unofficial methods to update .Samsung are also going to say in defence that flashing a custom recovery or kernel is what trips Knox .0 -
OP's defence here would be that he was only using Odin to install the firmware (both official Samsung products, but not officially available to the public) because his phone was jammed up in the first place. Samsung's support says make sure your phone is up to date - he found an update through the official channels, but the phone wouldn't stay up long enough to get it installed.
With hindsight he should have stopped there, because there was a serious problem with the phone, but has gone unofficial.
I can't see him proving the pre-existing problem, but he'll have to explain it and throw himself on their mercy.0 -
Except the versions of Odin on the net are usually modified and updated versions of the original leaked version.
There is also no way to prove that the firmware the OP attampted to flash was definitely the same as the original, it's been uploaded to a non-Samsung site and anyone could have tampered with it.
I struggle to see any court agreeing with (or even understanding) the concept of an end user using leaked software to flash leaked firmware and it not being a breach of the warranty terms (which will undoubtedly state it will void of the warranty to do so).====0 -
Knox trips when a 'non standard' rom is flashed - unless you are expert and know exactly what you are doing downloading roms and flashing from the internet is tricky.
The easiest way is to use Samsungs smartswitch software - it automatically updates with the correct firmware for make/location/carrier.
I am afraid you have tripped the customer rom flag, this invalidates warranty and there is nothing you can do to get a warranty repair from Samsung.
I would argue the toss with the retailer, see if you can get a replacement that way.0
