Thanks, but I looked at the tight Doha connection and it was coming up around £250 more each, so not worth the extra unless the specific day was required.

I'm not keen on the 9 hour waIt in Doha on the other days, but at least it's just one connection.

    Where's the incorrectness?

Are you serious or being the grammar police?

Post #7 contained an absolute in "the connection in Doha is too long".

How about the 9 hour connection and booking the airport hotel for a decent rest? It's airside so negligible travel time, and not cheap, but cheaper than the fare premium for the short stopover.

Yeah, I was toying with getting a lounge for the long wait as that would include food, but the hotel might be a possibility if I can get it at the non-overnight rate, which was about £125 last time I looked.

Qatar was about £1700 each, which seemed towards the higher end, then the wait costs on top. Once I can confirm the dates, I'll be able to narrow it down a bit. Then the debate is whether to book asap or hope for some sort of sale. I'm thinking asap for the certainty.

    At nine hours it is.
The far too short connection for this very long trip was disregarded because it is too risky and could cost another 24 hours delay.
    Nowt incorrect.

1 hr 40 mins is not too short, and if the same airline is not too risky as longhaul carriers usually expedite the transfer for through passengers, they are not daft.

As an example I use Cathay to Oz with a 55 minute transfer in HKG, you are met at the gate and escorted via quick security route and channel, they guarantee the connection.

Yup - ever heard of the exception that proves the rule?

    - it was almost 5 years ago
    - it was weather-related
    - it was Baghdad - Doha so hardly a well-used long-haul connection!

We're not mindreaders. If you want to disregard an option that's fine but if you don't say that you've done so expect people to correct you. Clearly your first post was incorrect *as you had stated it*.

I disregard things that aren't worth mentioning, including short uncomfortable/ stressful connections which are out of context of the OP requirements, doesn't make postings incorrect.
