Spammers wouls just use credit card fraud to pay for their subs and when joined this forum I could literally not have even spared a quid, but it has helped me no end. We give back hopefully by what we do for other people.
I have no time for t*ssers in the 'real' world or in cyberspace but you cannot pay for the privilege of hoping to avoid them. THey get everywhere lol;)

I think it's a nice idea just to hypothetically play around with and I'm not sure whether I'd be for it or not in principle. But the practicalities would be too difficult and I can't think of a way that would make it fair for all or not contradict the entire ethos of the site.

As for it making a fortunes, considering the expense of running the forum I doubt any charge for it would end up being profitable. I've still no idea how Martin pays for it, probably one of the few things he does that's ironically NOT money saving for him.

It has certainly increased Martins popularity, which, with regards to Martins TV and radio interviews, will have increased his bank balance somewhat. On saying this, I think Martin offers this service out of generosity.

Initially I did think that it was a really good idea but like others have said it might put people off who desperatly (sp!) need advice.

Thanks for the link Al Mac - very interesting!

Cheers for that Al Mac, it certainly explains a lot, I never noticed that link before. In effect, it pays to be free ;)

  • Some sites have a free and a paid for option..

If you opt for the free option you have adverts displayed...if you pay the adverts automagically vanish! (You also get other bonus features with the payed for option, such as exclusive forum areas, offers etc)

Maybe something similar could be implemented?

No Martin specifically states he does not want this funded by advertising revenue, thats not the intention of MSE.

Has Al Mac had his post deleted???

I very much doubt he's had it deleted. Al Mac frequently deletes his own posts. His ways are mysterious but that adds to his charm. :D

An interesting way of adding charm and mystique. Its probably why I havent read many of his posts before ;) but I will be interested to see if mountainchrisrivers link stays on this thread, unless of course he steals Al Macs idea :D
