My bedroom skirtings are not going well :( Last time I painted skirtings I used gloss and the smell made my chest painful and eyes water. So when I bought paint last year I got bnq low odour quick dry eggshell.

I put the first coat on this morning after stirring well as it said on the tin and the paint appears to have split and run downwards. I only put a thin coat on and sanded first so I don't know what's gone wrong.

I have tried a second coat which has gone on better but is not now covering where it has run down the wood. I will leave it to dry and then give it a good sanding tomorrow to get rid of the blobs of paint where it has run and then try a third coat. Then I am going to call it a day as it has really worn me out today. The other 3 walls will have to wait until another time.

I went and got 2 mouse traps from homebase, the rento kill ones were £6.75 but I got identical ones different brand £3.49. They are now loaded with peanut butter and ready to go for this evening. It looks like a few bits of bait have been taken in the kitchen so I have put some more down.

Managed 3 loads of washing dried outside as it has been so hot. Hope the nice weather continues.

oh dear. I am so sorry about the paint. I don't know much about paint other than my builder always complains that due to the EU paint is not of the same quality it used to be. You need to call the shop and ask the paint person who works there unless someone else knows?

Good luck with new mousetraps. Hope you catch it/them quick. You obviously have a bright set of mice. I hope they are gone soon.

It is boiling here. OMG. I do hope it continues.

Have not had a very good nights sleep. It was so hot I had the fan on, then I woke at 3am with back pain. At around 3.30am I heard scratching in the walls  which stopped around 4am when a huge storm came over with lots of thunder and lightening. I think I finally dozed off about 5.30 ish and got up at 7.30am when DS came in from work. Its grey and damp here today but very hot indoors despite all the windows being open.

No action on the mouse traps despite the peanut butter. However they have eaten/taken the pile of bait I put on the floor in the kitchen but not touched the bait in the dishes. So I have put another pile of bait in the same place and a pile in the living room on the carpet under a cupboard in the corner, hopefully that will get the little blighters.

Plans for today / next few days

    1. wait in for new vac delivery
    2. sand & re-paint skirting
    3. sew hem on bedroom curtains
    4. finish alleyway
    5. hoover all rooms
    6. get wallpaper from loft & oil loft ladder

I have checked online banking and have £5.98 left in my current account. There shouldn't be anything else to come off now before payday. I have £1 in my purse. Today will have to be a NSD !

The skirtings look better after the second coat. I am waiting for delivery of my new vac and then I will sand and repaint and hopefully it will look ok.

I am going to a friends house for coffee once the vac has arrived. Hope I'm not waiting all day !

My new hoover has arrived and is charging, it needs 4 hours before first use ! Did have a quick go with it first though and it is fab :D

Skirting board have been sanded and wiped down ready for another coat in half an hour. Hope it looks better once its done.

Whilst waiting for the vac to arrive I was looking on gumtree with a view to advertising the wardrobe in my kitchen but ended up enquiring about a 2 seater leather sofa £40 and a small wardrobe £20  The person selling the 2 seater offered to deliver it tomorrow when I asked to have a look at it and hasn't replied since I asked again to go and see it first, so alarm bells are ringing. Perhaps I just have a suspicious mind (Elvis has left the building lol)

The lady selling the wardrobe has just replied with size. Now I don't need a small wardrobe at the moment ...so why am I buying one ??? I should be saving not spending !!!

When we had our house up for sale in the past people said the smallest bedroom was too small even though you can get a double bed in and walk round each side and the end. I have DS's high sleeper single bed in the loft which he had as a young child and which I intend to reinstate when I sell in future. I will then remove the double bed that's in there at the moment and then I will need a small wardrobe to go underneath the high sleeper to maximise space in the room for viewing.

Am I mad to buy it now whilst its cheap as I may not be able to get one again so small and so cheap nearer the time. I am just going up in the loft now to measure the height of the legs of the high sleeper bed to see if it would fit. They have said they will deliver and then I would need to store it until needed. I will get the wallpaper down at the same time and oil the loft ladder

EDIT - the high sleeper is not as high as I remembered lol. I remember now we cut the legs down and made it into a midi-sleeper so that just saved me £20. No reply so far from sofa seller. Wallpaper and paste brought down and oiled ladder. No signs of any critters up there phew !!

Hi gosh you have been busy. It has been hot by me too and we had thunder and lightening I got so excited I texted everyone on my mobile phone - and got one of my friend's up in Bournemouth at 4 in the morning!!!! lol. oh dear. Everyone else was awake because of the noise anyway.

Well done on the skirting boards. It sounds like a difficult job. I applaud you. The wardrobe sounds great. You don't know whether you will get such a bargain again so I would go for it. It will help the layout of the spare room and is a great idea.

You are right not to trust the sofa people. All sellers should offer to let you see the sofa first then deliver or offer the chance to say no upon delivery. They may get in touch today and do this so I hope it works out. If not please do not get ripped off. Take DS with you when inspecting furniture.

I hope you have a good day and try to rest. The critters will be gone soon don't you worry.

Oh dear I think something similar has happened with my phone as it somehow disconnected from the wi-fi yesterday when I was trying to whatsapp my family. I just checked it again around 6am and it then sent all the messages. Hope I didn't wake them !

Well the sofa and wardrobe didn't pan out so I am back on track after payday saving for a new bedroom carpet. Was a busy day yesterday and managed to get 2 loads of washing done as well as -

    1. wait in for new vac delivery Done
    2. sand & re-paint 1 skirting 1 finished = 3 to still do
    3. sew hem on bedroom curtains
    4. finish alleyway
    5. hoover all rooms Done
    6. get wallpaper from loft & oil loft ladder Done
    7. cut grass

So just a bit of weeding in alleyway & grass cutting today. If the weather is nice I will wash my bedding and my clothes. Did DS's bedding and clothes yesterday. I am planning to do nothing tomorrow ! A day of rest before going back to work on Tuesday, this week has flown by but I do feel like I've done loads if not everything on my list. The rest of the decorating can be done a bit at a time over a few weekends.

I decided to go to aldi this morning and bought enough food to last till the end of next week so I don't have to shop during half term when its always hectic. It opened at 10am so I got there just before and the car park was almost empty. Stress free shopping ! I will take the money from the June food budget.

I hoovered downstairs and put a load of washing out when I got back and did some weeding and cut the grass. After lunch we had rain and thunder, I managed to get the washing in just in time. Then I slept for nearly 2 hours. The sun came out again so I've been for a walk and some fresh air.

I had forgotten its a friend of a friend's 50th on Wednesday so I will need to get a card as I have been invited to a girls night at her place in the evening. Her dad is really ill at the moment so she is not really celebrating. I was trying to decide if I should buy a present and if so what should I buy. She has always been nice to me when we go out and made me feel welcome but I know she has had many personal problems over the last few years so I thought I might treat her to a gift voucher for high tea at a local popular place - I think its £12 looking at their website. We have been there before as a group and I know she likes it so I think I will go and get one after work next week.

Any luck with getting rid of the mice Skint yet Again? We had them a few years ago and the noise of them scratching and running about really freaked me out! Bit odd for them to come in in the summer though - I thought they normally only came in to get out of the cold.

Your old hoover lasted really well, as is your telly! We had a telly like that up until a few years ago and that had lasted for a long, long time. Irons however, well I seem to get through them in no time at all, probably because I always forget to self-clean them!
