Another no holiday year

Nobody to go with either.
Can't feel much sympathy, to be honest.Person_one wrote: »Go on your own! Lots of people do it these days, I'm thinking about it myself for this year as I suspect my usual travel buddies might not be in a position to go away at the times I can.
I haven't had a holiday since I've been single - 4 years.
It was a good one (5 star all suite Mexico overlooking the Carribean), but I do miss a holiday.
I think of solo holidays as activity holidays or organised tours. I want sun, sea & sand.
Anyone brave the beach holidays solo?0 -
I've not had a holiday for the last 5 years. Holidays are nice but not an essential. I know I will enjoy it more when its paid upfront ( not on a Cc like I used to and maybe your friends have?) and other priorities have been dealt with first.
Is the problem the lack of holidays or that you feel you are doing less well than your friends? If you are discontent then you have 2 choices - learn to be at peace with your situation ( be thankful for what you do have) or go and earn more money! This really is a 1st world problem !
You could however pick something out for next year / year after and start saving? Its nice to have something to look forward to. I really wouldn't worry though. If you have food, a house and a job that's a lot more than many people.0 -

Flights £40
Car hire £15
B&B 3* hotel £54
Cashback and Avios earned related c£12.
What B&B are you staying in? I'd love to go to Malta and my friend and I are looking for somewhere cheap to stay
PasturesNew - I second the going on your own - cheapest flight from your local airport to a European city and hostel/B&B then free walking tours and museums and supermarket breakfasts and packed lunches. I've done several of these for under £100 so if you start saving a couple of quid now you should be able to get something before the end of the year - maybe somewhere with a Christmas market.
Kim Kim - I've done a solo beach holiday to Barcelona, plenty of beaches but also shopping, sightseeing, and culture."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Paul Theroux0 -

I can reccomend this place, very reasonable and stunning location. Handy for buses, restaurant underneath, airport pick up if required, lovely friendly people. We loved it.

Thought I was doing well on having not had a holiday in 13 years but someone beat me with 20.0

What is the definition of a holiday anyway?
I'm starting to suspect that some people only regard a trip abroad as a holiday.0 -
Stop being so bitter. Life is far too short to spend it miserable and jealous of everyone else.
Put £10 a week away - or a fiver if that's all you can afford. In a year, you'll have enough for a nice break.
There are groupon deals, sun holidays. Go and find what you want without the misery.
We had a week on a boat last year, a stayover trip to alton towers (didn't stay in the resort, drove 20 minutes to a travelodge/premier inn), and a sun holiday to a caravan in Cornwall, all different price points. The caravan trip was less than 1/4 of the price of the boat and we loved both equally - it doesn't matter how much you spend, it's all about your attitude. I suspect you'd still be miserable abroad.0 -
Add up what you spend in a week at home
Look at cheap Ryanair flights in fare finder
Be prepared to eat a picnic or 20 -

For me it involves a plane, a beach & the sea (preferably tropical) but I'll settle for the med :-)
It's two thirds (minimum) R&R & a third out & about.0 -
