    Surely a bank can unilaterally decide to close an account, whether sole or joint?

    I mean I don't think that he is the only person in the country who has difficulty to close or remove his name from a joint account.

    Natwest said few times, that they will close it. They were requesting documents, divorce papers, etc., and next week feedback: no, they can't. Done it few times already...

    If it's frozen and the ex can't use it to get any money out, does it matter that it's sitting there doing nothing? I can't see that it's going to impact on him at all now if it's been frozen.

    The "impact" is a financial association with an ex who has a poor credit rating/file.

    Exactly... we are trying to get a mortgage, but this account keep his credit score low :(
