I have been outside my property with my laptop and I can not pick up a signal so how can anyone else?
Because they have a better antenna than your laptop.
The WIFI antenna is usually a small gold/copper trace on the WIFI board in the laptop.
Similar to this WIFI module, antenna on the right.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Would that be the same as the Network socket on the side of laptop?
And how far could the antenna reach?0 -
There may not be cars nearby but don't discount either drones or these picking up your wi-fi signal:You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

I fail to see what the presence or absence of a PC password has to do with WiFi security.0

No password on the pc = anyone connected to the same wifi network has easy access to pc ..
come on, we all know how incredibly insecure wifi is !!
If your front door doesnt have a bolt on, it is sensible to lock your bedroom door !0 -
It depends if network sharing was enabled. I don't use passwords on my PCs but the only thing they can see of each other is the public folders. Even with passwords you have to specifically share.
I think this thread is verging on paranoia as the OP already stated that the nearest road is some distance away and his wifi can't be picked up by normal devices outside the property.
The lowest hanging fruit is completely unsecured WiFi followed by WEP and the OP hasn't been asked at all what WiFi security he uses.0 -

The C drive is shared by default as c$
Try running to it on one of your machines .. ie
\\ipaddress\c$
As for WIFI, it doesnt matter what the user is running as WPA(2) can be cracked in a matter of minutes (faster that WEP these days), even by kids with no skill whatsoever , using scripts in Kali linux
I see what you are saying, and i agree somewhat, but imho a pc with no password is crazy0 -
Inserting in the IP address of my laptop as that network share address in the browser on my desktop produces nothing - it gets translated to file://192.168.41.21/c$ and
I have specifically shared a number of folders on my network but there is no default C share. I do recall it from the past but don't remember if it was default even then.

There is a reason for me not having a password and setting it up to bypass login on startup. I run some programs 24x7 on the machine that upload periodically to the web. During the summer I am often away from home for long periods. A power interruption or the annoying windows autoupdates would leave the machine sitting on a login and the 24x7 programs would not be started. It's been like that on a number of machines and operating systems for quite a few years. My WiFi does reach outside the house and I live on a main road with easy parking and considerable foot traffic - so far I've had no problems.0 -
You dont type it into a browser (why would you !!??) , you type it into the run box (search box)
It is shared as default, trust me
(It is hidden though, so doesnt advertise its-self, but is still accessible)
It is very very unlikely that you will be targeted as i have said in the past.
I am just making the OP aware of the possibility.
You may have had no problems, im sure all my neighbours around 5 years ago thought they had nothing to worry about either ...
They would have been wrong !0
