percentage chances card scoring

I have always found this very accurate in terms of approval for a credit card. However, I applied the other day with a 90perecnt approval chance (highest you can get without being pre-approved) for an Amex reward card and for the first time have met with this being incorrect. Amex requires additional time to process the application which nearly always means the card will be declined ultimately. I have no debt and always clear off balances etc but do like to utilise cards for best interest and deals etc.
Has anyone else met with the percentage scoring being incorrect? it is still showing me today that I have a 90 percent approval chance for a range of other Amex deals despite that clearly not being correct.

It's not incorrect, though. 90% approval means 10% rejection.0

Also an application that is referred for further checking isn't nearly always declined.0

It can't give 100 percent as it's not the company providing the card but 90 percent is as certain as the site can be, so it's interesting (to me at least) given that the site sees the data as positive as it can be about me (for that offer) and I know the data is positive myself as to why it's referred. Just wondered if others had similar experiences. If others don't have or could care less either way that's good too.0

Never happened to me and the 2 times I have held an Amex card. I've always had an instant decision on the screen with Amex. Perhaps you are applying 'out of hours' so to speak so your application decision would automatically be deferred?
The MSE checker does give 100% eligibility, I've had this with MBNA. It also goes up to 95% as my partner had this for MBNA, so 90% isn't the max percentage you can get.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -
oh, thank you. I watched one of Martin's videos on youtube and he says 90 percent is the maximum so obviously, things have changed since he made that video.0

If you read the blurb on the credit card soft search tool it does say you may still be rejected for various reasons even if you're given a high percentage.
Out of interest did you attempt AmEx' soft search tool on their website as well as the one on MSE?It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Is it possible the application may have been declined on identity/ fraud protection basis? Sometimes if you make a spelling mistake in your address, state an incorrect duration on your employment history or slightly misquote your financial commitments (eg state your mortgage as half what its down as in your credit file as because its shared between two people) as I understand it any one of these things can lead to a decline.0

Thank you very much. I didn't use the Amex site no. I am always fine with cards normally and the site and what it predicts and I fill in the correct info but yes I could have made a spelling error for sure or something else that is always a possibility. Thank you very much to everyone for your kind replies.0
