Lidl or Aldi sell perfectly good bog paper for a bargain price. Struggling to see where spending "a few thousand" on a Bidet fits into the MSE ethos ?

Well, for people with hairy behinds, dry bog paper just doesn't cut it....
You could try the wet toilet paper though, apparently it's quite good....

I have tended to grab a few scrunched up sheets of bog paper and run them under a tap before going into a cubicle (unless it's a cubicle with a basin which makes things simpler) as dry wiping only can be a bit gross unless it makes a really clean exit :D

Haha! I have a client with a Toto. It washes but does not dry.

When if he was sure he didn't want the blow dry feature, he replied "I can dry my own bottom" which left me wondering why he couldn't wash it too. :o

They are superb fun, but I prefer the additional blow dry :rotfl:. There's a couple of fab steak restaurants in London with them.

I have mild IBS which means more frequent pooing than normal and that used to sometimes cause painful anal fissures until I found the ideal solution.

Keep an inexpensive, preferably non perfumed, pump action moisturising cream by the toilet. £1 for 250ml in Poundland or a supermarket works just fine. No need for fancy pricey stuff.

Wipe with dry toilet tissue until reasonably clean and then put a drop of the cream on a tissue for the last two or three wipes.

This not only helps cleanliness as it helps get rid of the last bits but it also moisturises your anus and surrounding area and helps to prevent painful cracks and fissures.

I haven't had a sore bottom since I started doing that.

Thanks for the 'helpful' comments chaps ... obviously none of you has personal experience but nice of you all to share your thoughts.

    In response:

Ebe - toilet paper sometimes doesn't do the job very well so I like to use a bidet sometimes, I would prefer not to spend thousands hence the post.

taff - I totally agree I think the hairy !!!! is the problem ... the problem with wet wipes is they shouldn't be flushed ... I still prefer a bidet.

Boliston - I find wet bog paper just disintegrates and spreads evrywhere - I then need a shower to sort it all out !

Doozergirl - I think you have to get a little involved with the process, I don't think it does it all for you. I can wash and use a towel for the drying process I guess.

Freebear - there might be a 'steam' function for 'vegetables'.

Head the ball - sorry about your problem but you seem to have found a solution.

    What a fun thread .....

MSE is not about spending no money at all. It's about spending as little as possible to achieve the goals you have set. Yes, most people in this country are happy with toilet paper. But there are many people that prefer something that gets you a bit cleaner down there.

I got one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009RP7ILS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (I bought from e-plumbshop - apparently some other sellers sell inferior versions). It cost about £120 to have a plumber connect it to the hot and cold supply. There are some reviews that suggest that it can't be used with a traditional open vented hot water system, but mine works fine.

It works very well, and personally I'd rather have something simple like this than an expensive and complicated bidet toilet which probably has lots of things that could go wrong.

I recommend shaving your posterior; both effective and cheap.
