Morrisons cashback problem

Hello
Couldn't find where to post this....hope this is correct place. Briefly wife got £12 of shopping in Morrison's this am and a CD, plus asked for £10 cashback that is on receipt. Checkout woman went to great lengths to show receipt and CD and take this to CS desk to get CD, this receipt is this and that etc! Wife got home realised didn't get £10!
Called store they will investigate....2 and half hours later no call back phoned, said initial till check does not show £10 over so not likely not given, wife said 100% didn't get they said will do another check tonight when store closes.
As very annoyed I called head office. Man who answered took details seemed very disinterested, asked to speak to manager said he was manager, asked for his manager he said not available! Asked why needed manager said (which is true) I fully appreciate the money may now be gone and our fault forgot to ask for it when not given, but wanted them to note checkout person's details etc as she has taken the money! He then said my allegation of theft needs to be made to police! Told him he is missing point and please get manager to call me, when I asked when this will be said no idea!
I am not now bothered about the £10 it bothers me this woman has taken the tenner as the till should 100% be £10 over!
Any ideas or am I being over the top? I presume its not the law you sign or they sign receipt for cashbak like some stores?
Thanks for any help / advice

It's probably too late to help you now, but at Asda, staff aren't allowed to carry cash on the shop floor at all. and security staff are allowed to carry out random searches on staff at any time. So in this situation, it would be pretty simple to check if the staff member had cash on her that s/he shouldn't have.
I'd be really annoyed too if that had happened to me!
TBH though, I never shop at morrisons, as I've found that (so far) every staff member I've encountered there is unhappy working there, and therefore singularly unhelpful.
xxHousework won't kill you, but why take the chance

That's because they're treated so badly. A friends friend lost a baby so her partner had two days off work to help her with her other kid and to grieve for their lost child (obviously!)... went back to work and got a warning for taking time off:eek: Absolutely disgraceful as employers! I'd never shop there either:D0 -
It'll get moved. I'm sure the cashier just made a mistake, you can't go accusing her of theft, as this is libel.
There's another thread somewhere with the exact same problem, I'll try and find it..."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

This has happened to my OH and me, both times at Morrisons because they do not ask for a sig when giving the cashback.
When it happened to me it was £30 cashback and I was just leaving the store when I reslised, I was lucky that the cashier didn't dispute me and gave me the money no problems.
When OH did it it was £10 and he didn't realise for several hours, he made lots of calls and kept getting fobbed off for two days, we couldn't seem to get a straight answer about whether the till was right or not, eventually we turned back up at the store to make a fuss and they gave in and gave him the £10, but we were made to feel like we had done something wrong.
Why can't they just obtain a sig like most others stores to avoid this?

You just don’t know what really happened.
The cashier may have deliberately robbed your wife.
The cashier may have inadvertently forgotten to give your wife the £10.
Your wife may actually have received the £10 and dropped it, spent it, shoved it in a pocket, buried it in her purse or handbag etc.
You can’t accuse the cashier without evidence and it is unlikely that CCTV footage will prove anything either way.0 -
Thanks for any help / advice
Write to a director. Finance Director, Managing Director, whoever you can Google contact details for.
Explain what happened, and how you were fobbed off by both the store and head office (did you get names of who you spoke to?*) Also explain that you realise it was your mistake, and understand that the money is lost, but feel obliged to inform them in order that they can conduct their own investigation.
Write the letter right, and I'd wager you see a tenner's worth of vouchers and an apology.
*Whenever you're not getting somewhere with someone who's less than helpful, I find the following often works:
"Can I speak to your line manager please?"
"Sorry, they're not available."
"Can I take your name please?"
"And the department you work in?"
"And the name of the company director?"
"And his / her contact address please?"
Can strike the fear of god into someone who thinks you're going to write to the MD, whether or not you actually bother. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Cheers for all the advice, I'll be writing the letter like mrbadexample says and see what I get.
I am past the losing £10 issue it is just the attitude and that the woman is thieving!0 -
YOU CANNOT SAY THE WOMAN IS THIEVING!
You have no proof she stole the money. She could have accidentally given someone a twenty instead of a ten, it happens sometimes.
Saying she is thieving is libelous and could cost you a LOT more than a tenner."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
