You say you actually complied with their silly rules but they seem to have messed up, why wouldn't you get stuck into them and make them sort it out.
The OP probably contacted the general manager can't you even try that yourself?
A good appeal to POPLA is likely to win if that fails.

Smart have issued 197341 charges this year to date and been to court 10 times do you really think they will be interested small fry like you?
Thanks for that kick up the backside, probably what I needed! GM was emailed last week however despite requesting acknowledgement of my email/confirmation the case would be closed, I am yet to hear back. CEO has been emailed today.
I must admit I did get very overwhelmed by the newbies thread but you lot seem to know what you're talking about.

If you know that it was registered in the hotel, then
write to the CEO and request confirmation of this.
The hotel is jointly responsible for their agents
Ask to CEO to cancel
Don't pay a scammer, get this nipped in the bud now
