Road tax has nothing to do with roads, council tax pays for that.

Council tax only pays for the upkeep of local roads - the main road infrastructure (major A roads and motorways) is funded nationally, at least in Englan and Wales.

Where I bought it before vans and HGV's were around or only a few on the roads {bread we made ourselves} and milk from the local farmer.
Just remember that there was a time before the roads were full of cars, vans ect and we did OK then {same when I needed to phone someone} I walked to the corner and used a RED public telephone box. We were also lucky as we had GAS LIGHTING in our home:D.

  • My General (driving) Vents.
    Drivers that do not signal
Drivers that talk on the phone whilst driving
Drivers that speed with a "baby on board" sign
Drivers that park in 2 spaces
Drivers that don't know how to use parking spaces but instead think it is ok to obstruct the road by parking directly outside a store front.
Drivers that park in disabled bays without a badge
Drivers that drive at 30 mph in a 40 mph zone
Drivers that stick to the middle lane on the motorway

If you are one of the above you should be ashamed of yourself.

I'd agree with these but add
Drivers who hog the overtaking lane (the far right-hand lane) on motorways because they want to travel at well over the speed limit, and make it quite clear that cars coming into the lane to overtake are not welcome. I am seeing fewer middle lane hoggers on MWays now but many, many more drivers who use the overtaking lane for their whole journey.

Tailgaters - at any time but particularly at night. If someone drives such that their lights fill my rear view mirror I will slow down.

I live in a city that has tourists and visitors all year round, so I am pretty tolerant of people driving under the speed limit - people often have to drive on unfamiliar roads. I am less tolerant of people who try to force others to drive over that limit because they are impatient or late.

  • Is anyone else fed up with the way things are i.e

sorting our own rubbish - I remember the days when that was the bin mans job so why are we doing some of their job

push bikes on the road holding up the traffic but not having to pay road tax or have insurance or a licence i.e one rule for one type of road user and one for another

jobs becoming more and more pressurised although we have more efficient means of working i.e. computers etc

lately we seem to be doing more of other people's work in our own homes than in the past and yet we busy in our jobs with no lunch breaks

The retirement age always being increased so we work longer into old age although we may live longer we may not have the health to enjoy it.

Why have we allowed these things to happen in our world, and what has happened to quality of life and time to enjoy the world we live in.

Why should you not sort your rubbish? You create it with what you buy. The problem is that we have more packaging which leads to more waste, and people buy more goods than they did in the days of the metal bins. As other posters have said, our waste needs to be sorted to prevent it all going to landfill. As householders we do a first sort - people are employed at recycling centres to do a proper sort. To put all waste into one bin and employ more people to sift through would cost vast sums. Would you want tp pay?

It doesn't stop there. I'm being paid for being an old git - it's a 24x7 job with no time off at all. Do I get a week off to be 18 again - no way - not even an hour off.

Do I get paid minimum wage for those 24 hours? No way. Time to take court action I think.

Plus - what right do you have to moan about the good old days anyway? I remember your good old days and they were carp compared to my good old days.

I don't object to sorting out recyclabes from general waste even though what plastics and metals they'll accept for kerbside collection isn't all that clear.

Where I do have a gripe is the way my council has chosen to do recycling. Unlike many places we don't have a single recycling wheelie bin we have a potential 5 extra containers...
A brown bin for garden waste
A plastic box for paper and card (must be cut down to cereal box size)
A plastic box for bottles and glass jars - no other glass allowed
A plastic box for plastics and metal - all manner of not easily found rules on just what plastics and metal
    A food waste container

Most houses they collect from the front and with terraces which make up a large chunk of the older town there is no side entrance so you either store all those boxes in your front garden (if lucky enough to have one) or store them somewhere indoors or store them in the garden and carry them possibly dripping wet through the house. I suspect that many don't recycle at all for this reason and put everything in general waste.

We do recycle as I can conceal the boxes in my front garden although I don't bother with food waste. Our reward on collection day is a street littered with recycled items that never quite made it to the lorry and a hunt for our boxes as the collectors seem to have a competition on how far they can throw the things and how many they can break.

    I do love a good whinge :)
