But do you know what!? Well done for actually thinking about this stuff. It took me to 32 before I thought sensibly about money. And I have a child. You sound like someone who is going to get stuff sorted.

  • My pleasure! It's never too late, but you're really early to the money saving party! Take it one bit at a time, think about your goals and how your spending affects them and most importantly, keep talking - we all make mistakes and they're fine so long as you learn from them :)

Thanks Skintteacher! Yeah you're right - we all make mistakes and chances are I'm going to make many in my life time so might as well get use to dealing with the little falls.

  • Morning you lovely lot,

    So today.

Well its not even 9am and I have managed to spend £6!

There is a roof top bar loacall and they do cool events in the summer and I noticed that they had tickets going for £6 so I asked a friend and she is well up for going.

When tickets to events are under £10 I cant but resist to go. Yes it will be expensive when we get there although I will have my savvy head on and keep to budget. Also I feel it is so important to have things to look forward to.

Today I am also getting my eyebrows waxed which will be £8. I have tried plucking them, going to a cheap waxing place but they never look good. At the minute I dont feel at my best and I think not having them done is a big part of that. So its a priority!

    Credit card
So I bought a iphone a 0% credit card last summer and been paying £20 a month and then I put some thetre tickets on there (which I have been wanting to go to for ages and WAS AMAZING) which were £40. Thats now paid so I've reduced it back to £20 a month. BUT I've noticed its down to £154.41 - thats not much at all! So only 8 months left. Hmmmm I'm going to really try and reduce it quicker. I have around £400 coming in from my second job so I need to think about how I'm going to spend that.

Also I have £400 in my emergency account although need to remember that I have gone into my overdraft which is free for the first £250 but I dont like being in my overdraft as it naturally just creeps up and BOOM at £250 and being charged. Luckily it wont get to that point as I have enough in my little piggy banks.

Also I've calculated £8.50 (ignoring the coppers) in my sealed pot so I'm going to put that into an empty piggy bank account and that can go towards my overdraft at the end of the month.

    Whats really on my mind
My will. Recently I've heard so many stories of young people being diagnosed with whatever or just dying and I guess I have that invincible feeling BUT the reality is I do have savings and a pension now so if something did happen to me currently the government is going to get that money. I dont want that to happen. So this is my aim for the week to write my will....important!

Wow. That's got me thinking now... perhaps I should also write a will. Scary to think about. :undecided

Even if your overdraft is free, if you're dipping into it does that not mean you are still overspending?

Re the will have you checked out the intestacy rules? It'd go to family before the government.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Tonight going out with a friend, so realistically will cost £20 including travel and a drink. I've been sensible and told her that I am eating before. Might try and squeeze in a cheeky date this week too but we'll see. Guys can be flakey especially on the dating apps so I'm not getting my hopes up!

I know what you mean and it has put me off. But I think of it as if I had written it ages ago I'm still here today. Just because I'm writing it now doesnt mean something is going to happen soon.

I'm trying to be black and white about it and not get too emotionally involved. Realistically it's 3 hours of my time and if ever something was to happen it will be priceless for my family/friends.
