Hello Everyone
Camelot so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
Gentle hugs to all the poorlies and all those with sleep problems.
I have been offline since yesterday because we had to clear the lounge ready for the carpet fitters this morning. All done and normalish life resumes. I just have to go through drawers and cupboards sorting and hopefully throwing stuff out or donating to charity. I can't believe we hoard so much.
Tea tonight was another portion of curry out of the freezer ( must admit I was glad I didn't have to cook as I'm shattered from moving furniture etc )
Just has an S.O.S. call from DD to go and house sit tomorrow while they are at work because their boiler is leaking again and has stained the living room ceiling. This is the second time in 12 months and the engineer has already replaced the pump. Also have to take GD a Triceratops toy so that she can do Show and Tell in class on Friday.
Well that's enough waffle from me
Take care all

Gers did you make some soda scones with the off milk ? I used to love them when I was young My late Dad had his Grandma's 'girdle' ,a cast iron thing that weighed a ton but when he cooked the soda scones on it on top of the kitchen range they were to die for. I can taste them now dripping with butter and slathered in HM jam .I have a non stick 'girdle ' that I bought a few years ago when in Fort William but it never turned out the same tasting ones as my Dad cooked
:):)and day-old soda scones, toasted before the open front of the kitchen range were delicious

No, I didn't. Mainly because there wasn't much left, only really enough for two cups of tea. Nice idea though.

I've a cast iron griddle smooth on one side and ridged on the other and it does a decent enough job but it's not quite the same. In the winter she used to leave the remains of the day's milk on the hearth next to the open fire to sour the milk. I wonder if that contributed to the taste? She also used to make her scotch pancake batter the night before and leave it next to the fire too

Evening all x
Hugs camelot x
Nan must be a boiler sos today. My DD1 was meant to be having a new one fitted but all that went to pot when they found a major gas leak so it got cut off. Ended up with her and DGD here for dinner and showers.
Jackie o I had to read your last post twice as I had this image come into my head of your late dad cooking scones in your grandmothers underwear ( girdle not griddle)
Well it looks like the car is not fit for purpose anymore. So now to try and find the money for a new one.
Anyhoo hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Evening OSers,
Quiet day really, which was much need.
So glad it is February now, I really need to be paid as my account is looking sorry for itself! What a long month it has been.
I was hoping for a NSD but I am so desperate for work clothes I decided enough was enough and picked up a few things from Next in their clearance. Got some lovely bargains! That's me sorted for a little while.
Sitting down to do my meal plan and shopping list for the coming week, so I should feel more organised now. Just need to get on top of my washing/ironing, fingers crossed I will concur that come Saturday.
Time to stick my feet up and grab a cuppa before getting my head down for an early night.
Hope you are all having a nice evening.Emergency Savings #73 = £1,500/£2,000

I so, so wish that I hadn't let my Dad ditch my Gran's girdle when she died (in my defense I was in my 20's with two under twos). It used to belong to her Mum so when she died would have been over 100 years old but was still perfectly useable and was a monster (covered 3 gas rings) of a thing originally designed to hang above an open fire but the stuff she made on it was wonderful all sorts of tea bread and of course on a Sunday a fry up

We always had soda scones at our house at least twice a week.My late Dad was briliant at making them .He was born in in 1890 (55 when I was born) and when he was 8 he saw the first motor car in Brechin and lived long enough to see men walk on the moon so his Grannies cast iron 'girdle ' must have been pretty ancient as he was the 12th of 13 children and his Dad was born in 1834. I hate to think how many children and adults that old blackened thing cooked for.
He lived in a very small cottage ,basically a 'Butt'n'Ben' and how my Granny brought all the tribe up I dread to think as it really was a tiny place, still there in Park Road Brchin and I took some photos of it a couple of years ago when I was up there. Just the smell of those floury scones remind me so much of being a little girl and hopping up and down and asking 'are they ready yet ?':D:D and trying not to burn my tongue or let the butter drip down the side of the scone0
