Perhaps it's the insurance gods reaching down to issue the OP with yet another dose of karma, I certainly hope so anyway.0

Doh! But what you obviously missed is, its the same details, same everything and look at the wild differences!! My quote last week wasn't at the definitive stage- It was just a feeler to see how much it would cost. Did another one today and its gone back down to £1234.0 -

You weren't being definitive. Clearly they weren't either. Yours was "just a feeler" - so was theirs. What's the difference?0 -
And yet they only pay the body shop repairers £30 per hr labour max and get given huge discounts on parts paint etc.....................never see a insurance co go bust0

These price differences may also be based on their analysis of your web activity. If they see a browser history that you are shopping around, the price may come down. If they see you repeatedly coming back to them, then it may rise. It's like buying trinkets in the souk, good old fashioned haggling, nothing more. Check again by using a different computer or a different log-in, or clear your cache and try again, prices might be better or worse depending on their algorithms.0

The share prices of the insurance company may affect the quote, worth checking. This could change in a matter of seconds. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -

May I introduce you to (among others in the UK that have failed) Equitable Life?

You do, but not that often. What is more common is for insurers to stop offering motor and/or home insurance to some or all of the market due to the lack of profits. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0
