Is my passport linked to my credit rating

Full passport details may be retained by CRAs and associated with your identity and credit file. This is so the CRA can provide services relating to your identity. The CRA may also use it to link previous addresses and credit records where the passport matches. If you have provided a bank or anyone else with your passport (other than at a border) they may or may not have sent a copy to a CRA. This is now standard practice. If you are concerned about this you may write to the bank and ask them to confirm whether they have done so. They must tell you but may also report you for acting suspiciously as they may think you have something to hide. To make things more convenient in future for you to send your passport to the CRA, there is an app from Experain called AutoDoc-ID. Please find out from your bank whether they have sent your passport to the CRA or not and let us know on this thread.0

This does not make sense to me?0 -

Hi Moover,
Your passport isn't linked to your credit report
The bank would usually ask for ID/Passport as part of their verification checks to combat fraud and ensure it's nobody else trying to open a bank account in your name apart from you.

"“I'm sure someone from Experian will be along shortly to confirm or deny this suggestion Originally posted by GingerBob ” The above statement kind of suggests your adress is on your passport " The applicant must also provide proof of address such as a utility bill. Both the address and the passport together confirm the applicant's identity. CRAs provide passport authentication services such as AutoDoc-ID. I would be very surprised if the data gathered was not retained and linked with other data relating to the same person and their address. The spokesperson is technically correct in that details of your passport will not appear on your CAIS credit file. However, it is most likely your passport ID is linked to your credit file for identity checking and data matching if the CRA is used as part of the identity checking process.0

That's hard to read since its not clear what posts you have quoted (using the quote button helps )0 -

I think as a new poster we should allow sargeantsalt a little leeway here. How's that now?
I also agree with sargeantsalt. There is no way a CRA is getting hold of any of your data and NOT keeping it. And now they are really legitimising them by HMRC using them.
And a new question for you, do you really trust the new USA with your data?0 -
Sorry but the quote button and paragraphs do not work on my device. It would be helpful if the spokesperson for the CRA would confirm the storage of passport information where banks use the CRA for identity checking. If it is the case that the CRA stores passport data separately in such a way that it is impossible to match it against other records of an individual, please confirm this. Thanks.0

Dont really get this thread...
Just like anywhere in Europe, banks and other companies providing credit sometimes request to make a copy of your identity documents. In the UK you only have a passport or birth certificate to prove your identity, while in most european countries you also have an ID card. The UK have another advantage as in some cases identity can be verified digitally (electoral roll, CRA's).
Being a national of Portugal, i know well that no bank over there will ever give you credit without you supplying identity and employment documents, unless you are an existing costumer. There is no exception to this. And it is a very common practice in most european countries.
I believe the copies of identity documents stay only with the company that lent you money, as they need to make sure you are who you say you are. Now, what does this have to do with credit reference agencies? I doubt banks would have the liberty to supply CRA's with copies of your personal documents. They can supply info about how you run your account, but it should be just that.
Being in the UK for over a decade, it has been a long time since i had to supply copies of ID documents to a bank. Even if CRA's had a copy of them it would be vastly out of date/expired. But i have had several credit products in the last few years and never been asked for ID documents.0
