Bit of a rant and a hopeful request for some advice/guidance: it aint just dial up modems eg for those of us for who BT steadfastly refuse to update their hardware and therefore can have no broadband connection (unless we pay, literally, hundreds of thousands of pounds to that comany's coffers our current "best" option is 3/4g on some sort of dongle/mifi device. Nope, for me at least, these big downloads take away huge percentages of available data and with no option turn them off, will continue to do so. Only this month I have managed to negotiate a data allowance upgrade of double plus for "only" £4pm extra. Put another way, I am having to pay out an extra c£50pa to accommodate M/soft. Sheesh!
For other reasons, it would be helpful for me not to be having to use the Anniversary edition and, before Christmas, I rolled back to the "original" W10 only to find the machine continuously updating, failing to install and then beginning the process again. On occasion, this happened a couple of times a day and literally ran me out of data allowance. Then I read in this topic of saving updates to a stick and, presumably, not installing them. Is this possible? If it is: would I be able to roll back to the original W10 and allow the updates to run to the stick; and if it is possible, any advice re how to do this will be very gratefully received0 -
In 2013 - 3% of users of the internet - still used dial upYou still know of people using a dial up modem, really?
Thought modems were dead, and even more dead than fax machines.
Which implies thar there are still people using it today ?

Yesterday my laptop took 90 minutes to do a routine Windows 10 update. It's an i5 with an ssd on a 150Mb internet connection.
Today my laptop is running Linux Mint. Enough's enough.0 -

This is the major update to a new version of Windows 10, so is more substantial (and takes more data usage) than the normal updates.0 -

More of the same, again.
I'll repeat what I said before, I'm not having a go at you.
How long will you put up with the grief that Windows gives you before saying enough is enough?
It gives you endless problems and I'm sure everyone feels you pain but in your position I'd have kicked Windows into touch long ago.
One way to avoid the pain that updates are giving you is to leave your laptop switched on overnight so they happen while your in bed.
Again, in all of your previous posts, at least the ones I remember, you have given no indication that you absolutely have to use Windows. If ever there was a more suitable candidate for a move to Linux I can't think of one.
There are plenty of us on here who would help with the transition. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
