Hi mouthyman.
I've no complaints regarding Origin so far.
When my first bill was due, I received an e-mail saying to login to my account to view my bill. On logging in the online billing wasn't functioning on their site, so I phoned them up to enquire. The call was answered very quickly, the lass who answered explained it was an issue whilst they were updating their system & she e-mailed a copy of my bill whilst still on the phone. Since then I've had no other issuesMy £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

I will NEVER use Origin again, even if it's free, even if they pay me to use it. It's not a service, it's a liability. It loses connection several times a day, ( in a good reception area ) Customer service is a waste of time. I won't bore you with the countless times my internet has failed completely and it takes hours on the phone to sort. I foolishly paid for a year, but I don't care, I've joined Sky today and Origin are history. Origin, your a RIP OFF and not fit for purpose.0

Oh they're the pits! The Ryanair of broadband providers.0
-
I was with them on the South Yorkshire Digital Region before it went bust and they became a broadband reseller. They were OK until SYDR collapsed and from the moment that happened they were abysmal.
They made a number of promises they couldn't keep which resulted me being without broadband for over a month.
there is no way I would ever go with them again, probably the Ryanair of broadband resellers!0 -
My 80 year old Dad had been having trouble with Talk Talk. The service was dropping quite often and rebooting the router, having to setup his wifi connection each time on his laptop was just too confusding for him. He was spending too much time with his 'life-line to the outside world' unavailable.
I read a lot of reviews and purposely looked for a provider that was highly rated for customer service, more so than a cheap price. Origin were first or second on virtually every review I read so when the time came, I helped him cancel TalkTalk and order a new package from Origin. Bear in mind I live 3 hours away from him so aren't arounf too often to help with any issues; good customer service and reliability (promised by the Origin reviews) was must.
I'm trying not to swear here but, trust me when I tell you that Origin are by far the worst company I have ever had to deal with in any capacity, from any industry/service! Their incompetence knows no bounds. I haven't even got time to list their endless failures, examples of shockingly bad service, number of false promises, etc etc.
My Dad paid a lot of money upfront and maybe that is the problem; they have the money so they just don't care. To this day, they are still feeding my poor old Dad complete bull**** and he is none the wiser. This time around, he has been without Internet since 22 September. Origin have blamed BT/Openreach who have sent an engineer round; there is nothing wrong with the line, it's their service/equipment that is fauty. Thy've tried telling him that the router has to sit right next to his laptop and that 12ft away is too far i.e. it's his fault, not theirs!
He's just told me tonight that he's had enough, he's getting too stressed and confused with it all and has just been intouch with TalkTalk to go back to them. I know that they have improved their service so hopefully he will be okay. The frustrating thing is, he has lost lots of money with Origin; what they've done can't be right and I thnk it's accurate to say that they have, at times, verbally 'bullied' him.
I'm hoping to get up and see him soon. Hopefully he has some element of records, dates, etc. that I can use to try and get him some justice. Right now, I'm serioisly looking at raising this with Ofcom.
For now though, I'd very strongly suggest that you avoid Origin at all costs! If anyone has advice or experience of redressing such poor service from an Internet provider (and maybe involving Ofcom etc), I'd be most appreciative of any info/advice.0 -
poorest service in the UK. poor customer service on phone and email. broadband speed from 3.5mbps to max 7.8mbps for download and 0.01 mbps to 0.79mbps for upload on ADSL. The speed stays same whetherits midnight or weekend or weekday, just poor service. Price is same as of talk talk, plus net or EE so better avoid Origin. at the end of contract you pay for another 1 month as you have to give them notice and then return the crappy router..which I am putting in recycling bin as I don't want another customer to suffer with poor Origin hardware. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID this poorest broadband. I am now with Plusnet and I have constant 13mbps download and 1.09 mbps upload in Greater London area for ADSL connection.0

I think that the OP has probably decided what to do some time in the 18 months since the original post...0

I joined them a couple of months ago. I chose their Max service up to 76 Mbps, average 63 Mbps, but expected to get 48/50 Mbps at most as I had done with my two previous providers BT & Plusnet I was shocked when their very basic router only gave 32 Mbps top speed, an ASUS N16, I complained but that only upped the speed to 41 Mbps. Better but nowhere near the 48/50 Mbps I had from the previous two suppliers. I will be leaving them at the end of the 18 month Minimum contract periodSomeone please tell me what money is0

Just echoing thoughts here, as a previous 'customer' who has posted my own complaints about Origin I can only advise to steer well clear. I was only able to leave my contract on a technicality of their own making. Abysmal doesn't even begin to sum them up.
I moved from Origin to Zen Broadband over a year ago and am very happy all round. They are one of the most expensive providers but the service, reliability, speed etc is superb. I'm happy to pay more for zero stress. You also get a decent free router thrown in.0
