Looking to swap ISPs to Origin (adsl), the MSE's No2. pick.
How have the compared to your other previous ISPs?
How long do they take to answer the helpline phone?
How was the support line on the phone when things go wrong?
Is the connection laggy? Will my slither.io snake die before it is even born?
Been with Plusnet for over 2 years, and started off great, but over the past few months on weekends and public holidays, they seem to be kind struggle during peak time.
I normally get 10M/b but screen says 0.8M/b down. After a bit of caching get below
Personally I think it is shaping, could be my exchange but who knows.

Thanks

Another place to read user reviews of Origin Broadband is http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/reviews/799/reviews.html...0

spud17, no I did not see that link, thanks. I did not even know this site had an Internet group
John Grey, Yes i did see that link, but since you can pay companies for multiple reviews, thought I might be lucky here with names with a few posts to their name0 -
Omg this is the worse isp by far! Paid upfront for 24 month contract. Money taken efficiently from my account. That was about the only thing that was done competently - oh and the modem arriving! Sent a text two weeks later with a date when engineer would arrive and when I would go live. Emailed saying can make that date, no response so called a few dayS later. Lady was polite said she would arrange a time I could do and email me, took her email from her. Did not hear anything so emailed her only to be told that engineer coming on the date I intially said I could do, emailed her repeating I could not do and proposed dates I could - no response! Engineer turn up on date could not do. Rang origin, emailed them email trail where I said I could not make that date- told I might be charged for engineer to come out again but they would review account and this would take seven days. I told them I wanted a new date within two days where I would not be paying anything- seven days later heard nothing, no response to my emails. So I got my money back through chargeback. To date I have heard nothing from origin. I only went with them because MSE's were promoting them saying they got good customer feed back REALLY??? And they were cheapIt was only after I signed up that I have read several bad reviews about ORGIN on here and other sites. I should have done my research before handing over £360 but hey lessons learned and all that!!!0

Wow, feel for you there......That said, no matter how much they said I was going to save, I wouldn't pay for two years upfront for any service. IMO that takes away any incentive they may have had (if any) to offer decent customer service and restricts my choice for far too long.
Glad you got your money back. Have you moved to anyone else?Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Hey, RumRat No not yet. I have mob phone data, so just managing on that, for now. I am going to go with one of the bigger providers, not that's any Guarntee of a good service if you read the reviews on them. However, for me it was the total lack of communication from ORGIN and not doing anything to provide me an internet service even when I spoke to them. I've had my problems with ips before but never as bad as this! I should have checked them out more, before handing money over as reviews are dismal. As I said lessons learned!!!!0

Thanks for the feedback. Was going to purchase 2 lots of 24 months. Think i may stay with plusnet.
I would like to dissuade you of going to sky. I was with them. All my traffic is through a vpn and they didabled my vpn route and told me eventually after being fobbed off they do not support vpnbut at least their support was quick.
I am with plusnet and you wait 45 mins on the phone before you get told to change the filter... and it seems always to be the filter even though i do not use one as the filter only blocks noise to the phone. Now though it seems support more email based.

We've just moved our telephone and bb services to Origin on a £17.99 a month deal for telephone and 8mb ADSL BB vs. £42 we were paying to BT, a massive difference.
It wasn't the best of moves. Origin gave an activation date for broadband of 22nd Feb. On the day itself, BT stopped their service at 10am, and by 8pm, nothing. Had to call Origin first of all to get the username and password to set up my router (they should really have sent this beforehand). By 10pm, still nothing. Turned out activation happened at 3am next morning (?). Not the best of starts. As we are on the 10 day training period for the line, broadband speeds are erratic at the moment - the first 2 days it was horrendous, timeouts, DNS errors, etc. Right now upload speeds are 0.15mb and download starting to reach 6-7 mbs as we are very close to the local exchange. I'm sure it'll settle down by the end of the 10 day training period.
Their tech support is UK based, which is nice after encountering the BT 'script readers' for many years.0 -
I changed ISP to Origin at the beginning of February from BT. Using their fibre service. The switch over was seamless & my new modem arrived without issue. (I'm paying monthly so no big upfront bills). So far I've had no issues, my bill has halved and by connection speed faster. My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08
