Hi motivated, lovely to see you again! I had wondered how you were doing.
I'm sorry you've had a hard year of it. I think the instinct to hide is a survival one, but resurfacing probably means you now have the resilience to begin to find your way up and out. My husband ended up out of a job too - he left his long-term one for something less stressful but the new contract started in April and they couldn't take him on due to lockdown! Thankfully we had just got as far as paying off the mortgage, literally by a month, so my pay has been enough and DH is now working part time. There must be plenty of people in similar circumstances but personal finances are generally invisible to others.
I know the sort of spoons you mean - I have the tiniest one labelled 'smidgeon', but I suppose even that removes a measurable quantity! Concentrate on what you've removed, not on what's left, if that helps. And this coming year has got to be a better one, so you've timed your return nicely.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

This year surely has to be a better one.I have hand written letters to creditors today to update them on our current situation and to basically keep things ticking along. So far they have been very supportive I have to say which is a godsend.A new year a new start a new budget a new outlook on life and a new more positive me I hope. I'm actually glad I logged in have my head out of the sand. Thanks again for your kind words

Morning all I'm still standing lol
ive just received letters regarding our 2 biggest debts. Have been paying a debt collection company who were only managing the debts. (They were still with the original creditor) for a long time now but they have now sold the debts on I suppose this is a bonus as i know they sell them on at a huge reduced price so may be up for a partial settlement along the way. We live in hope
happy new year all

Welcome back. It's been a hard year for everyone and I have no doubt that there are lots of people not yet ready to face up to the situation that they find themselves in completely outwit their control. Getting a new budget done now that your husband is employed again and managing the weekly payday is your priority now. Then you can restart your journey making payments that you can afford. As long as the direction of your debt total is down rather than up you can count it as a win. Stick around, it is always easier to tackle this when you are checking in and keeping yourself accountable.3

Thankyou moneywhizz you're so right
im hoping and praying that things slowly start to move in the right direction. I should be thankful really that we have our health and a roof over our heads which is a lot more than some at this time

skulking back in with head in hands
Yes I've hidden away
Yes I've buried my head
Yes I'm embarrassed
Yes I've made a mess of things
But Yes I'm back and kicking my own back side.Where do I start. Well things became increasingly difficult to cope with financially and the longer I ignored it the longer it went on.I'm not sure what happened today but I had the urge to log in and hadn't realised how long had past since posting
I stupidly hid away and my mojo went further and further down. (Embarrassed)
Ive come to realise that posting and staying around here is a Godsend that keeps you on track. So today I have given myself a huge talking to and have drawn a line under the missing months. We're still plodding along but have not made a significant change in our circumstances. I've vowed to change this from this point onwards.Still in our DMP and still just bobbing above water and will ensure that this changes from now on. I need to join some challenges and get this done once and for all. I'm not getting any younger.I've been reading the debt free roll of honour and something I read struck a chord with me today."If you've had previous cycles of debt - and are coming back head down and shame faced - stick your head back up. You can do this!!!"
This quote, from someone's amazing debt free journey, along with a fellow debt buster who I chatted to for the first time today in ages spurred me to start off my journey again. Also the fact that I've been around here for 10 years in itself is a testament to how crap I've been at this.Line drawn under mistakes
Mojo back in place
New day, new start
I may not be there yet but I'm in a better place than I was yesterdayOff to find some challenges to join
hope everyone is well

Good to have you back! Keeping on trying for ten years sounds like strength of character to me. That thing about 'fall down twice, get up three times'.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hi Cherry and thank you
yesterday I spent most of it going back through finances (again)
So glad I returned to here. I contacted our DMP provider and fingers crossed they will be able to work with us and change our monthly payment.Once I did our budget again it was crystal clear that t wasn't feasible. Our gas and electric has nearly doubled along with the rest of the country.I went through all the direct debits and cancelled a couple that are not needed. Our RAC recovery sent a renewal and doubled to £30 a month too. After reading the small print I noticed were not covered for an accident or anything else. Just literally if you break down. Cancelled that straight away.
I need to remember to take the scenic route and not to try and dash for the finish line.Yes we are in the brown stuff but we still need to live. Were a long time dead as the saying goes.Anyway I'm feeling a lot more positive this morning and already added a little more to the emergency fund. The sun is shining and I plan to potter around the garden. I've no need to go anywhere today so no spends. Thanks all again
