Thinking about it, shops sell saucepans "suitable for induction hobs" so someone must make a "cool top" induction hob cooker. (the base of the pan gets hot, not the hob) If you could get one of those cheap you could make your own.

Ebay ZVS induction £5 to £30 already assembled.

The 1000W one works well, not pushed it to its limits yet though. Spotted a video where someone just connected it to a pair of 18v batteries with no current limiting. Blew up after 120Amps.

So had to buy a pair or 1200W constant current/voltage power supplies to save its life
