I am going to do a summary update on finance as I am off this week and won't have access to all the current facilities and tracker spreadsheets while I am away.

Mortgage interest is down to £36.11 a month now - and if I let the mortgage run its course that is £1444.40 left to pay the BS. It is also a £75 saving with last month's reduction in balance. It is theoretical as I really want to clear it before that and am deliberating whether to use savings or run it on for a few more months.

    The mortgage balance is £34,982.77

    The Savings:
£32,368.29 - Instant saver (£20k of this is ready to put in next year's ISA)
    £12,628.84 - My old managed S&S ISA
    £26,622.11 - DH's S&S ISA
    £20,502.87 - My self-managed S&S ISA
£500.00 - My HSBC Reg Saver
    £500.00 - DH's HSBC Reg Saver
    £500.00 - DH's Nationwide Reg Saver
£1,500.00 - In my TSB Current Plus (5%) account
    £11,727.25 - BS Bond
    £106,849.36 Total
£71,866.59 - savings after mortgage is offset
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

This is so wonderful, SL, you're already so far over mortgage neutral, you've got so many options. Have a great time on your trip, sounds like you've got lots planned already.

Oo I love a financial summary and that is looking very healthy. It must give you a great feeling of security as you both move into retirement. I am really enjoying reading your diary as we are following just behind you. Have a fab trip visiting your Mum.

Thanks both. My cousin is coming to do a couple of hours in the garden with me today (hooray) - I need to repot all those chillies and tomato seedlings before I go away tomorrow  - so much to do. Must get on!

Oh goodness, it is weeks since I updated. I had to do an emergency transfer back of £500 from savings to cover the CC bill that DH uses - it had Motor-cycle insurance and my birthday expenses on it, together with lots of fuel and school dinners.

Then this weekend, while staying with friends, I was reversing into their drive and inadvertently drove over a steel bracket bolted to the ground to hold an old telegraph pole in place - the pole had moved, the invisible bracket had not. It ripped out the centre of the tyre - straight through the steel banding. We had to drive back on the Spacesaver at less than 50mph. You can imagine how happy everyone was behind us, especially on the A14!

We are outdoors today, doing garden stuff (more later!)

Well I got my new Rhubarb plants in - they are rather dry but as they are tough as old boots I do expect them to revive. I removed three trug-buckets of weeds from the destination beds and moved weeds around between the big 1-ton builders bags so we could lift three of them onto the trailer ready for the dump when my tyres are sorted. That reminds me, I must ring the people as they will need to order the tyres. That means checking the tyres (for size etc) and to do that, I must first put clothes on ... back later.

Good to hear from you Suffolk with or without clothes :rotfl::rotfl:

Ouch to severely damaging your tyre though

Your gardening tales have inspired me. We have a big garden but are time poor. Just dug up 3 out of 4 of our veg beds to site an extremely large trampoline we were gifted! Boys aren't allowed to use it yet as we haven't had time to put the safety net up and it's very close to the greenhouse :eek::eek: I am determined this year we will grow 3 things though - not sure what yet xx

Thanks for all your valuable comments on my diary :D

Sorry to hear about the tyres, SL :( the rhubarb plants are great but they're a bit light in the scheme of things, financially! Still, they'll be very beautiful :)
