Busy times! I need to find the instructions for bottling the plums.... I wonder if I bookmarked the page...
(ETA, found it - and then remembered that I'd saved the page as a file on my phone 🙄. I think some bottling may be happening today or tomorrow!)Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I love this time of year too, @Suffolk_lass. It makes for a lot of work, but I love seeing the pantry filling up with good things. Been pickling this morning.

Four jars of pickled onions here @foxgloves. The plum and apple was postponed as I sort of ran out of steam (day 3 of one of my headaches too!). Three wash loads, shopping and preserving for winter, all with my ankle double the size it should be (I believe I have aggravated a permanently damaged ligament). The potatoes in the field behind us are being harvested (day 3 today) and DH may have gleaned one or two from on the surface, when he returned from the dog walk.
I am making courgette and lime (with lemon) cakes this morning. It's a very easy Nigella recipe with vegetable oil instead of solid fat. I make it in 2x1lb paper lined loaf tins and it's a favourite with a cup of tea. Although we don't bother to ice them (should that be frost them?) with the cream cheese, lemon and sugar topping, I might dust the one we eat (I freeze one) with a little icing sugar, to jazz it up a bit!
We have been talking about buying an expensive piece of beekeeping equipment for a year os so now and today is the day I am going to phone and order it! With the other things I need from this supply shop it is over £1000but DH had such a huge health scare with his eye that it really made us value the convenience of an electric convenience device over the manual process we follow now.

Definitely icing unless you are American! Cake sounds good - might have to try that when next lot of courgettes are ready. Will be having a ‘kitchen witchery’ (as per Foxgloves) day here today - have finally caught up on my work, so it’s time to tackle the produce!

Another vote here for trying to balance dealing with the various bits of produce alongside taking care of that ankle - you're no good to anyone injured!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I love reading about it. You inspire me to grow my own next year!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Good work, @Suffolk_lass. I love home made pickled onions. So much more tasty when you can add your own ingredients. Mr F was quite keen for me to pickle some of his shallots, but he only wanted one jar & I said that would be a bit of a faff. I might relent over the BH weekend if I am in the mood. Be careful on that ankle. I hurt a tendon in mine during lockdown in 2020 & it took over a year before it was completely pain free. It was when I had a tantrum trying to put my new little fancypants gardening ankle-wellies on, got my foot stuck half in & half out, then instead of sitting down properly & trying again, I wrenched the boot round in a temper (think sweary drama queen) & heard a bit of a 'pop'. They really do recover better if we are sensible & try to rest them (says she, who didn't!)

9 killer screw top jars of stewed plum and apple now cooling. The first batch of 3 all popped without needing to be tipped upside down (good as you don't get that deteriorating orphaned layer on the inside of the disc) - so six more just done.
I have gifted a few small cucumbers and some runner bans to next door and half-promised plums too as that is on my list for MrSl today!
Bees
The order for our beek kit has been placed and I expect it by Tuesday. DH has been going through all the supers (the shallow boxes of frames that they store honey in) and there are two to extract. 20 frames. Not many but enough for us and our neighbours who buy it/receive it as gifts and for the people who host our bees on their land.
