A quick note that DH has clonked the sugar jar against the granite worktop and taken a chunk out of the glass. So around 1.5k of sugar to be thrown away and all the other jars out of the drawer, vacuumed and wiped with damp then dry kitchen roll to ensure the splinters get into nothing else. These things happen. Now I need to buy sugar though! It is jam making season!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

A lovely relaxed day yesterday, we went to the village green for a dog-walkers breakfast - a way for the social club to reach residents to tell them about things that are going on. After gently fending off a fearless cat that decided she needed to be involved, some of the owners (the whippet, greyhound and some labs) quietly withdrew their dogs who were thinking "lure!" as she strolled around and rolled on the tables and benches (she lives with two labs and fears nothing!).
After a relaxing do-nothing morning we went to look at a house with DS who is thinking of moving. We took our time and it is a good house with a certain amount of work to do, with some bits more expensive and potentially longer term than others. DH will go round and see what needs to be done to the current house, in order to bring it to market. All very interesting. We might come to a private arrangement with DS for a bit more of a contribution, but we might also gift him the share of his house that we own. He will need a small mortgage and I don't know if that is something he will get.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Back to today. I want to pick in the veg garden, especially plums. We need to clear clippings to the farm bonfire and weed paths too. And in among these jobs I need to make sure our new Queen bee has been liberated and acceptedSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Thanks @trix-a-belle, he is still an agency worker but the management are trying to make him a permy. He will need that I think to be able to take out a sensible mortgage if he is to move.
Worthy activity!
We took five aggregate bags to the farm burn pile and popped one with particularly persistent weeds (nuclear proof, probably) in the black general refuse bin, double bagged to ensure no escapees. I think we should not but I would not be comfortable composting these, here or at the council recycling green bin.
Garden bounty
We picked a seed tray each of runner beans and climbing and dwarf French beans (I have yet to process these) and a further tray full of courgettes (three soup packs chopped and ready to freeze - they cook really well for soups from frozen and it is our regular winter lunch; tasty and nutritious).
A couple of handfuls of raspberries will be tonight's dessert and about twice as many freshly picked blackberries, open frozen, will be added to the bag for crumbles with apples!
Then there were plums. We restricted ourselves to three size 2 deep gastronorm pans and filled them in just over 30 minutes. Many of them are still firm but we needed to reduce the amount on the tree as they were going to snap off branches (we omitted to prune in June and July, because of bee activity and a short break) and also the wasps, that are currently feeding on the greengages (none are undamaged for us this year).
Money
In money news, I will need to top up the running costs account as there is barely enough for the bills still to hit it and we are definitely going to a pub between now and the end of the month because we have booked a two night break with fellow motorhome friends, half way between our homes next weekend. I could take cash, ooh, and DH is going to the town where the bank is and will bank a cheque for £100, so we could pay some cash in, I'll just check... yes £100 can be spared and added.
Bees
I might go and look at the small colonies at the homes with grounds where we keep bees too. I just want to check they are defending against wasps OK and have stores.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
