Over a week since any activity here. Our new year visitors departed on 3rd, happy, well fed and hilariously exercised (think flooded water meadows, with a miniature dachshund, involving a lengthy detour and the pub).
DH immediately contacted the eye clinic and after 15 minutes with the Triage nurse on the phone, with her insisting a spirit level view is normal with a gas bubble, and him suggesting she check his records as the early disappearance of the gas bubble after only just over two weeks (instead of the 4-6 weeks the paperworks references) had been the subject of his pre-Christmas discussion with the registrar. He was very polite but gently insisted that his symptoms now were different, and too similar to the original detachment to be ignored - and anyway, was he not supposed to have a 4-6 week appointment now anyway?
They called back two hours later, "Can you come now, there's a gap in 15 minutes?" - Err no, we live a minimum 20 minutes drive from the hospital. So the appointment was made for the following afternoon. And yes, the retina had started to re-detach. Not as bad as the first time so the surgery was scheduled for Friday not that day or the following day).
Repeat surgery on Friday morning, using oil instead of gas (which will require another intervention, as I understand it). That Wednesday, I was in the town, with the dog in the car, and no plan of where to go with him. I went to my Aunt's. She had an annoying (to her) cough but was negative on her test. I waited there over three hours before collecting him, then rushed out again to my bee meeting.
Thursday I hosted book club, Friday I delivered the village lunch, having first delivered and then collected DH from hospital. I was feeling a bit shattered but I took the dog for a walk, Friday afternoon, then pretty much flaked out, feeling tired. Saturday morning I felt flu-ey with a sore throat so I tested. Positive. Off to bed until today (4.5 days) - still positive but feel better this morning, hence some sedentary computer activity. I need to change the bedding if possible after several days of symptoms. Thank goodness for vaccines. It's been horrible, even after 4 jabs. I hope the worst is behind me. Especially as DH says he has a sore throat this morning. He's in the spare room and we have both been wearing KN95 masks but I suspect he has caught it from me, and me from my Aunt.
So that is 2023 so far. I need to do the end of year figures and set up the 2023 spreadsheets to track spending. What was the song Labour used for the 1997 election? Things can only get better! (D-Ream) - I reckon SKS and team should use it for the next election too, it stands the test of time IMHO - joyfulSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Oh what a way to start the new year! Glad you are on the mend at last though and I hope, if that is what it is, that Mr SL doesn't suffer too much.
I too, think that 'Things Can Only Get Better' is a joyful, uplifting song that should be used more!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I hope things *do* get better for you, sharpish, SL, that's a horrible start to your New Year. Rest when you need to, please.2023: the year I get to buy a car2

Oh lordy SL what a rotten start to the year for you guys! Take it easy as you recover - trying to rush back to normal activity is a good way of ending up with Long Covid, it seems.
Full marks to MrSL for being insistent about the eye thing too!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
