badmemory said:I was reading that a lot of birds will be pre-frozen then defrosted this year because of the bird flu. As long as they tell you it has been frozen & then defrosted. It is when they don't tell you it is a problem. Years ago it used to happen quite a lot. At least there are rules now, well for the present anyway.Merlin's_Beard said:At least if it's already frozen in a freezer you know it won't go down with bird flu between now and Christmas!
I think that is spot on @badmemory - not sure what Therese Coffey plans now she is back at Defra but she comes from a "low need for regulations" stance in a Suffolk constituency experiencing some of the worst bird flu impactsSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Basically chlorinated chicken if we aren't very careful. Down to the lowest common denominator, unless they change their minds.

Oh no... my old iMac (circa 2012) just not there when I tried to wake it up. All a bit hard as a result at the moment. New power lead coming tomorrow. Fingers crossed...Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Sadly it wasn't the power lead. The very nice Apple man has been and has taken it away to determine the problem. It will be Tuesday before I know.
In the meantime DH mentioned he had a bit of his eye he couldn't see through so an emergency optician's appointment was made for Thursday afternoon. It was a detached retina!!!
The optician obviously had a special number or code and rang and requested an urgent appointment. We drove home (I drove him) from the optician's called in to use the toilet and get some refreshment for him then straight to hospital. Optician's was 3.20 and he was in the clinic by 5.20pm. I had no sooner got home than he messaged to ask me to pick him up. Back to hospital again. Then home. Then back to hospital for 10.00 Friday and operated on that morning. I got home, walked the poor dog (8 trips in 24 hours in the car) then took him to the other town for my car to be MOT'd. It passed. Got home, put the kettle on the stove and the hospital rang to say I could collect him, He was back home literally 24 hours after we left for the optician's the day before.
Our NHS is quite simply, fabulous and emergency treatment fantastic. I am so relieved. He can see shapes today and has a gas bubble and armband. No pressurised environments (fortunately we are driving to NL via ferry. No swimming for him though). We will know in a few weeks how much of his sight has been saved.

Oh goodness how scary! Good to see the system still works in emergencies. Fingers crossed that his recovery goes well, and that he doesn't get too bored by all the rest restrictions.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
