A piece of land in the village is up for sale. It has had two previous planning applications turned down as it is agricultural land and our village is supposed to be for minimum development. Nevertheless it is listed as "speculative development" land and listed for twice its agricultural value. I am going to phone the auctioneer and see what I can find out as we are looking for a parcel nearby to have an equipment store for bee equipment, but cannot afford the listed priceSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

That would be perfect for you, and in keeping with what villagers want too, I'm betting. Good luck with it.2023: the year I get to buy a car2

Morning everyone. Happy Monday!
Lots (and I mean lots) of weeding yesterday - concentrating on the veg garden. It helped me stretch my back in the right place after the Farm Show on Saturday. DH was out there too and planted all the beans so the greenhouse has a bit more room. Tomatoes in their places and squashes in the cold frame and greenhouse, ready to go. Last lot on the windowsill germinating in the kitchen. Home-produced veg is going to save us lots this summer (and next winter as I freeze loads of it!)
I also have some nurtured little perennials. It was a "free" offer from the GW 6 month subscription. Actually it was £5.95 for postage from T&M. Their mini plug plants have been awful from them and I vowed never again but these were just about OK. I have grown them on and they are now outgrowing their 3" (9cm) pots so need to be moved on or planted out. The local rabbit population is currently suffering with myxomatosis and mortality rate is high so I might be alright to plant out, but then again, a couple more potting on sessions and waiting won't hurt. I have a second cold frame and will use that I think. I need to tackle the front garden once the veg plot is clear. Then they can go in there. Almost MSE as I have 30 plants for £5.95 plus a bit of compost.
In money-saving news we tried @Foxgloves' pesto recipe last night, using chard that is growing on a path and some droopy basil from the TGTG bag, I felt like JO with my 15 minute supper! Very tasty and a keeper recipe. Almost "free" as made with stuff I had in.
Poor pup was really suffering with itchy healing wound last night so we bathed him. The puppy shampoo makes him smell lovely (he was very doggy-smelling with the inability to lick his bits) and followed by a teaspoon of yogurt (my Sis tells me it conditions their coats and stops scurf) he is not fidgetting this morning. Evidently a teaspoonful once a week is OK, along with one egg, also once a week, - both good for him. And he loves them.
I need to make biscuits for something I have organised for tomorrow, and cordial, today. Elderflowers in bloom here.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Did not notice milk from the milkman has gone up again (January and again yesterday). It was 95p last year, then 98p and now £1.05 from this week. Yes, I know that is expensive but it means I can stay clear of the temptations of the SM by not going. It works for me as I am terrible for picking up stuff not on my listSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I remember you were saying about that recently - it has to be what works for you. I pay for supermarket delivery - I get it at the cheapest time of day on the cheapest day, and it saves me *so* much physical energy. If I had to buy my food in the supermarket and walk home with it *then* clean and unpack and put away, I literally wouldn't do anything else, my energy would have all been used up.2023: the year I get to buy a car5

Glad you liked the chard pesto, @Suffolk_lass. I'm glad we do too, as there are 11 more pots of it in the freezer! I'm also putting lots of effort into our food growing this year. As you say, it does make a difference to the grocery budget, both in terms of actual ingredients/items not being bought i.e lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc, but also with the batch cooking we do with it. Those meals tend to last well into the winter & with prices the way they are at the moment, & still rising, I'm very much of the mind that every little helps. We don't have an allotment, but our garden is a decent size & about 1 third of it is turned over to food growing one way or another.

I’ve just noticed that the milk price has gone up again - I’m sure they didn’t notify me by email this time though!
Re yoghurt for pup. Because it’s fermented the lactose changes (breaks down/disappears? Can’t remember!), so it’s probably doing him good anyway. I’ve read that it’s fine for cats in any case, and because of the microbes in it, it is good for their gut microbiome in the same way it is for us.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
