I'd never realized that puppies were so much work!
The only dogs I've ever lived with were fully grown, female & completely trained. One was a large tri-colour collie who would fetch her own leash and deposit it at the feet of whomever she fancied taking he out for a walk.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Well, any feelings of smugness have gone. Little pup cried for much of last night. When I came down this morning (just after 07.00 DH had omitted to put the old cashmere sweater in his crate so he did not have its warmth to snuggle on. No wonder he was crying! This morning he has pooped twice on a training mat in the same place (I cleared the first, put a second out and he has christened it - hopefully progress!)
In money spending newsmy spreadsheet tells me I have spent less than £30 on each of groceries and stores, £45 on subscriptions and DD (milk), £20 on treats and entertainment and £278 on pets...! (excluding what he cost to buy).
We now have 2 separate sets of bowls (to the cat), two washable bedding mats, two faux sheepskins I collected yesterday (he has already pulled out lumps!) two washable training mats, a pack of paper training mats, plus food, puppy milk, crates, beds, puppy shampoo (more expensive than mine) and many existing towels and cloths.
Thanks for the anecdotal encouragement - some makes me realise how little preparation we had done, some are reassuring, and some make me chuckleSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

The joys of raising a puppy 🙂 Puppies aren't used to sleeping without their litter mates and mum which can cause isolation distress. Does pup have a cuddly toy? A large, soft one can make them feel they have company. I thought this one sounded good (if a bit costly 😲).
It's an expensive business keeping a dog isn't it. I remember being horrified at how much we had to spend on FDawg initially and he was a rescue. He costs us about £100 a month even now with insurance, vet bills, food and treats, etc.

Yes @Fortune_Smiles, it certainly is! We thought we had thought it all through but there is so much we don't know. He has several chew-toys (road-kill, ball, octopus and rope teether) but seems to like snuggling on the old cashmere sweater in front of the aga (who wouldn't!). The heartbeat thing sounds attractive but as he is chewing everything I don't think he would see the difference and I think at the moment it would quickly get shredded or soggy rather than snuggly. I have a second felted cashmere sweater I can sacrificeSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Why not get a few teddies from your local charity shop for him to snuggle or chew. I know our last dog came with her own teddy.4
