Looking forward to reading how you tackle that lot in frugal MSE style and with panacheMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!4 -

Happy New Year to all who visit my thread. Our visitors have now left - one here since the 30th and two since 31st. It was time for them to go - you know that bit where you love seeing your friends but tiny things start to grate or irritate? well yes, we were almost at that point but not quite.
Was it the talking over the top that one does? or the real tightness in his spending that also means he uses all my toiletries when he is here? I don't know really, but it was time for him to leave so we remain good friends.
DH is currently vacuuming and the heating is now turned down to 16c. We have logs in the fireplace if we want it warmer in the sitting room, and the big range cooker (aga) heats the other rooms enough for us. I have just added another £200 on top of the £198 per month that the energy provider takes as a direct debit as in September, they returned the accumulated cash in credit (over £400 I think) that would have minimised the need for top ups through winter. We had a secure message exchange where I explained why this was a stupid thing to do (more politely than this) and why - the electric aga consumption is similar to going to Australia from September to May and leaving the iron plugged in and switched on while you were away - probably about 1kw per hour, every hour. To be fair, it does also do my ironing as I "press" pillow slips, sheets, table cloths, napkins, tea towels and anything else that benefits from being ironed, by flattening them on the hot plate covers... but yes, I know it is expensive and it is not dual fuel.

ooh, that's exciting! has this been brewing for a while, or is it a spontaneous decision? Puppy, or rescue, or something else??

Yep, us lot want to know 🐕🦺 🐩 🐕 can't find a puppy, but all dogs are cute

It's a puppy. We've been talking about it for five years and agreed because we have Stealth Cat we could not have a rescue dog and we either had to wait for her to die (she is 11 this year) or get a small puppy so she could boss it, or at least avoid being its plaything. So my friend has three and her dog grooming lady had been let down. We are collecting him on Saturday (also a crate, toys and training mats, and with vet bed bedding coming tomorrow. More stuff.
I must get a tag engraved tomorrow. And as for names...
I told my Mum and she was really rude about us getting a small dog and also laughed and ridiculed the names we like. So he won't be featuring in any conversations with her unless he is there while we speak. She seriously needs to get out a bit more. I never imagined my Mum could be so rude and insensitive.
We lived in a large Victorian house with an enclosed large garden and always had large dogs that my grandparents and then my father looked after. So I guess she was thinking of those times. We live in a small 3- bedroom cottage with a fair sized garden open to the fields behind and road at the front. Fences would just be plain wrong so it has to be a dog we can exercise without letting it run free/Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
