Work programme?

Has anyone been on the work programme? I've read some negative comment online but the woman I saw today seemed nice. What are other people's experiences with this? Were you forced to apply for a job that you weren't interested in? Thanks.

Were you forced to apply for a job that you weren't interested in?
Is it wrong to expect unemployed people claiming benefits to take on any job to support themselves, whilst at the same time looking for a job they are interesting in?0 -
Do you mean that people who've been unemployed for some time should only have to apply to jobs they are interested in? What if their interest is in a niche market, with the very occasional job coming about, or they are only interested on jobs they have no previous experience, that is ok?

Yes why do a job that you're not interested in? If you have no passion for your job what's the point. If you don't have experience you can volunteer or do work experience. Yes because you should only apply for jobs that you actually want to work in. Even the jobcentre staff told me that.0 -
why do a job you're not 'interested' in?
possibly to support yourself, rather than relying on others to support you?
do you really think that bin men and bus drivers are 'interested' in their jobs, or do you think they are doing what they need to do to pay their way?0 -

If you do a job you're not interested then you won't have it for long. They must be interested in it.0 -
What if nothing interest you because what you enjoy best is not working?0

My son is a refuse collector and absolutely loves the job, he worked in the council offices before and they were all desk sitting miserys, out on the bins he has a good laugh with the other guys, earns £15 an hour, £24 an hour on bank holidays, is home by 2pm, gets tips for Xmas, finds all sorts of weird and wonderful things people chuck out (which they are allowed to keep) He is very interested in his job.0 -

youre kidding?
my dad did a job he HATED for over 40 years because he had to earn money in order to survive!
i know a couple of people that have jobs they find enjoyable, but the majority of people work because it gives them an income and noot because they derive any pleasure from it at all0 -

im glad he enjoys his job, but MOST people work because it gives them an income and not because it gives them any pleasure0 -

I agree with gypsyteeny.
That's both patronising and untrue.
My academic Grandad chose to be a bus driver (in the days of conductors) and then a coach driver and loved both for almost 40 years.
Incidentally, I replied in full re the OP and the WP on the Employment thread where the OP first posted it, this morning. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -

You'd probably find most people aren't "interested" in their job! I like mine, the people are nice but I'm not in love with it and if someone would pay me to stay at home I'd gladly take that option rather than getting up at 6:45am in the dark and scraping my car! If you wait for your "dream job" you'll probably end up waiting years.0
