When my dad ran a cash business he took his change to his WMC. They were gratefuld for it as it would cost them to go to a bank and change notes for the tills.
If you have to go to the bank with it consider ringing and asking if they would like to make you an appointment so you can hand it over in a private room, so not upsetting the queue at allIt may sometimes seem like I can't spell, I can, I just can't type0 -

I can guarantee the OP will not get an appointment to pay in some coin in a private room, for a whole host of reasons (staff security, the fact that it doesn't actually help with the queue aspect in any way because you'd still need a cashier, banks are unlikely to give appointments for counter services in any event, etc).urs sinserly,

I never understood why folk save change like that, the odd copper maybe, but even I try using them up if I'm out & about. I tend to spend my silver as I get it before breaking into a new note, better have more cash in the bank than an oversized bottle full at home.0

Some branches have a post entitled "cash manager" - if you were to call and explain your plans, they may be able to recommend when they would be happiest to see you.
That said, several pubs I know make a point of emptying the bandit on a Thursday for the Friday change - if you've pound coins, most bars will be able to agree an amount & date even faster than a bank, and they may well take the silver too.
Congratulations on all that saving!0 -
If you're friendly with any working mens/social clubs they'll usually be happy for the change. The one I frequent has a few regulars that bring change in - even unbagged!0

If you live anywhere near the South East corner of England (roughly from Cambridge down to Brighton), or have reason to go there, the trendy "Metro Bank"s have excellent coin sorter machines. You just drop in all your metal and the machine prints you a paper slip showing the total value that you can take to the desk and exchange for bank notes, or pay into a Metro Account (you don't need to have an account, but if you want one they will open it there and then and even print the bank card while you wait....).
