Taking LOTS of coin into your bank...

Hey guys,

Hoping this is as 'simple' as I feel for asking it? :o

Basically, I have bagged (in bank bags), approximately £1100 in various nominations of coin. It weighs a ton but there's a rural branch of my bank (Lloyds) near me and they have a customer carpark right outside. I want to pay it all into my account in one go, shouldn't be an issue should it?

Thanks.

Bear in mind that some banks will limit the number of bags of coins you are allowed to take in per day, or may refuse to take them altogether at busy times.
I have no idea which banks as it always amazed my why people do this, that includes these silly coins saving 'clubs' at MSE.

Some banks have a 5 bags per customer per day rule.

if it's an issue... pay in what you can that day, do it again when you can. It wont be a regular thing so just get it done?
  • This reminds me of the video of that guy walking into his bank with a wheelbarrow full of coins :P

To answer the question, I'm not sure they'd have too much trouble with it. As others mentioned, there may be limits on how much you can take in at once. Probably best to drop in (minus the coins) and ask them what the best way to do this would be? Can't imagine them being anything but helpful! :-)
  • Thanks guys! Looks like it might be bank specific then?

Where on earth did it all come from? A big win on the 10p falls?
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.

This was my latest addition. About £900 in there! Added to some of this:

Like I say, ABOUT £1100, give or take. This time round it took me about 3 years to fill the bottle.
  • I hope I'm not the next one in the queue behind you!

Haha, that's why I want to take it to the rural branch, it'll be quieter there! Plus the parking. The last time I was in that branch the only member of staff visible had come out from behind the counter to see a visitor's, almost certainly not a customer, dog's paw - post operation. I'm pretty sure regular dogs aren't allowed in banks, right? - anyway, that should give you some idea of how quiet it would be :D
  • Several years ago I used to deposit cash from a charity shop at HSBC.

They were happy with up to 20 coin bags at a time.

If you are going to make multiple trips. It's easier for the cashier if you can take just one or two different denominations each time rather than them have to adjust the scales multiple times to cater for all the different denominations.
