How much to get a tree cut down?

Anybody know the average price to get a tree cut down. It is conifer type tree and about 20ft tall.

depends on if you are getting them to remove the wood afterwards and how easy to access it etc. also

i..e to remove a couple of similar height trees between me and a neighbour our quotes differed by £1000 from the same bloke

cut a bit off at a time, it should only take a hour or so.

Then wait for the kids in about 3 weeks.
  • I've just paid £250 to take down and remove 2 silver birch trees. Both were 'house-sized' tall.

20' tall is a DIY job I reckon - we had a big conifer cut down earlier this summer and partially cut into logs with remainder to clear/burn £150, stump will just rot - the trunk had a diameter of about 2.5'.

did mine myself with a new saw, (after some little turds set fire to it).
cut it into small logs and took it to the council tip in an estate car.
took about 4 hrs all told.
    Get some gorm.
  • My brother just had his 20 ft tree felled - cost him £1000.

I think he was taken for a ride, I have had a 40ft conifer taken down for £100.

  • 20ft should be manageable yourself if you have enough open space for it to land safely without damaging anything. Get some help, do it in sections, when you do the top sections, tie on ropes first so that someone on the ground can pull (gently) to ensure you can direct the fall (don't cut all the way through, obviously). Leave on the foliage to cushion the fall and be very careful to ensure ladder safety.

I did a taller tree than that in the summer and it only took us an hour. If you are lucky enough to get the composting wheelie bins from your council, it is amazing how much will fit in at a time if you cut it up smallish - it only took two 'empties' to get rid of my tree. You also try doing something 'artistic' around the garden with the remains of the trunk!

Well - he got a number of quotes but none less than a grand!!! The tree trunk was really wide and it was about 4ft behind his garage - it was really tricky to get to - it took 2 guys best part of the day and they took all the fellings away - which was quite a lot.
