Are degrees in the UK value for money?

Keele's a solid university, and now has a medical school as has Hull. A country this size has to have a wide base of solid universities.
Let's stop pretending otherwise.
Keele uni is 50th out of a total of around 130 unis.
This does not mean its average in terms of standard. It just means its a rubbish uni.0 -

I am 100% certain that they did. I took my O levels in 1977. Calculus was in the syllabus and tested in the exam. I was weak on calculus and made a conscious decision to ignore all calculus related questions and concentrate on the others.
I didn’t take AO level maths or A level maths.0 -
I've no idea how you can all remember, I took mine in 1986 and to be honest, the details of the exam (any of them) have been lost in the mists of time.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Keele has a long standing reputation for dual degrees, which IMO Will become more popular.
It also scores highly in the post uni employment league table.
These are relevant considerations for students.0 -
Oh and about faking results to confirm to known values or outcomes that is sadly rife even at university level and even R&D labs. That is why peer review is necessary to confirm results were not faked or exaggerated.
I dont think chemistry was too bad on learning the lingo, you did have to know the names of a lot of compounds but there were rules to it so you did not need to remember the 1000s (or whatever it was) compounds names you just had to remember half a dozen rules which would allow you to name a compound. You may have missed that, I had a !!!! teacher for chemistry and I missed it for about one term thinking how the frack am I going to remember all these names but going through the books myself a huge weight was lifted when I realized it was just a few rules to remember something the teacher should have made much more clear.
The rules you refer to are so rife with arbitrary exceptions that they are akin to a language. For example, we were taught to learn the valency of things by rote, and then if you want to know the chemical formula for something, you just swap them. Oh, except if one's a metal and the other's an acid then you don't.
I think the flaw in science teaching was the assertion that it's all rational and logical, when it's about the universe and is thus actually not. We have a random physics of many we might have had.
The problem with peer review is that there's no review, as the climate science fiasco has taught us. It is actually pal review, the review does not encompass checking the data, and when data or conclusions disagree with the hypothesis, it's the data or the conclusion that gets discarded, not the hypothesis. Publicly-funded science needs its Martin Luther.0 -
You probably had a !!!! teacher sadly lots of crap teachers exist.
White light is typically shown by using a prism splitting sunlight into a rainbow of colours. Never heard of anyone trying to combine three different colours and create white light.?
That's how bright white LEDs work. They combine the outputs of red, green and blue LEDs. The key was to find out how to make the blue ones.0 -

Only if it says what type of employment. Would you still think it was good if you found out that 99% of students went on to stack the shelves in supermarkets? Would it still be worth going there to study for a degree if you knew you were going on to a minimum wage job. Many students get jobs after university. The important information that you need is what kind of job.0 -

Oh, of course it's a sales pitch, these tables.
But...it's a step in the right direction, and you do feel like the Unis are trying to be more relevant to the future employers.
Still some way to go I reckon.0
