British Banks?

Hi all
And by that I mean wholly British not just based in the UK.
I'm furious at my bank HSBC for saying they are going to relocate 1000 staff to Paris, so I'm looking for a 100% British bank to more to.
Thinking about Nationwide. ... Are there any others that are 100% British owned?
Regards

Nationwide is not a bank but a Building Society.
That said, they offer current accounts which may well suit you.0 -

Why?
They are an international bank and it's prudent to review positions and relocate staff if assessed prudent to do so with potential Brexit.
Paris is a slightly odd choice but that their prerogative.
The world, and particularly financial services, are interconnected and international. For that reason I see Brexit being far less dramatic than has been mooted, and the real scare mongering has toned down dramatically in the last few months.
My banking relationships are primarily driven by the benefits that I can accrue, I keep my politics separate.0 -
The ignorance of people astounds me.
Do British banks who want to continue to do business in the EU have any choice but to make some sort of base IN the EU?
I hold no brief for HSBC but to react to our getting out of the single market and customs union will mean many businesses who trade with Europe will have to make provision to be able to continue to do so.
Or
We could rely on taking in each others washing in order to keep employed.0 -
bigadaj makes a good point. Also, I would be more concerned about the quality of service and the product benefits rather than where the bank is based. HSBC is a global bank so I'm not surprised they are relocating their staff to accommodate business needs.
To answer your question, Natwest, Barclays, Cooperative Bank and Lloyds are a few that were founded in the UK. I don't know about the others but whenever I called Barclays, I was always put through to an Indian call centre - not that I mind that.0 -
It's not as if HSBC hadn't been a worldwide bank before, is it. There's even a clue in their name.....
It would be quite bizarre to think that british companies will only deal in Britain in future.0 -
Not one single british bank won't have non-british capital. The world just doesn't work like that, despite efforts from protectionists.penny4yourthoughts wrote: »To answer your question, Natwest, Barclays, Cooperative Bank and Lloyds are a few that were founded in the UK. Ah, got ya. Thanks, Archie.

In that case, sorry, OP. Don't think you'll have much luck with this. To be honest, I don't see why it's such a major problem.0 -

'I'm furious at my bank HSBC for saying they are going to relocate 1000 staff to Paris'
Sounds like a sensible business decision by HSBC if Brexit is going to cause harm to what it normally does.0
