Argos returns policy is a con - just sue them in County Court for a refund

I actually want to hear back from the OP as to how the bailiff intervention went. Sadly as he seems to have gone slightly apoplectic (milkmen, shills under the bed) we won't ever hear the resolution.
I would choose Argos (and Amazon) over a lot of other retailers purely because of the good service I've had taking things back.
And I'm so happy because I only setup this account 11 years ago for this one email praising Argos, so slap my thigh and call me Mr. Shill from Shillington (where they still have a petrol station where someone fills the car for you, apropos nothing)0 -
10k posts on a forum in 9.5 years. Yes at 2-3 posts per day, that's really a sad life.... :rotfl:1. i dont need to hear anything, I am sharing my own facts for other victims.
2. if i had a sad life to do nothing but post 10,000 posts on a discussion form, i'd be scared of your reporting. Guess what, I'm not! ha ha ha
3. Thanks, but somehow I think theyll be paying up within a few days and I think you know that too.
I dont think any high street retailer wants to see newspaper headlines of bailiffs visiting its store.0 -
Am I missing something? Surely Argos's returns policy is above statutory rights for change of mind, and in that sense they can impose any terms they wish?
I bought something from Argos before Christmas, which I then found cheaper elsewhere in the Black Friday sales...so i took the original item back to Argos, got a refund and repurchased. That is 'change of mind', so how is their policy misleading?
Most stores who offer a returns policy, impose similar terms.
As for the faults, that is different. However, they have obviously deemed the case not worth defending - something which does happen in large companies.0 -
I suspect the OP has not given us the complete picture. What "fault" does the laptop have? Unusual to have two in a row with the same issue. If an item had a genuine fault it seems highly unlikely that Argos wouldn't have taken it back?
I'll also chip in with having never had an issue with Argos, even started a thread about them on the praise vents and warnings forum a week or so back.0 -

I agree. In addition to the item I returned, we also purchased 2 iPad minis from Argos, which then also became cheaper in their own sale. My husband took them back and cheekily asked if they would refund the difference - and they did!!! We know that we were very lucky to get this, and that they did not have to do it.0 -

Well done, Op.
If you buy something faulty and the shop refuses to give you a refund, issuing a small claim is absolutely the correct thing to do. That is what the small claims system is there for.0 -
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread, lots of differing opinions.
OP I am very sorry but I would not be able to help you.0 -

If Argos believed that the laptops were not faulty, they had the option of defending the claim.
The benefit of small claims from the consumer's perspective is that it forces companies to give an issue proper attention rather than getting fobbed off. The Op was told by the manager that he could never return faulty products and that is simply not true.
You have hit the nail on the head with this whole thread.0 -
Well I've worked for Argos for 74 years and they are the lovliest retailer in the cosmos. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
