Re cleaning the toilet- I admit I only did it about once every 4-6 months. I didn't see the need if it didn't smell.

    ....

I do not believe all the, limescale/whatever it is, is from the water alone and non from bodily waste. That seems a very outlandish claim you're making.

    That is disgusting.

The toilet is filthy because you haven't cleaned it. You're so mean you won't even flush let alone use a toilet duck once a week.

This behaviour deserves to be elbow deep in !!!!! Unbelievable!

    Glad you're not my tenant.

    Is this a wind-up post?

I particularly like the bit about the landlord not spending money on the flat. Oh but he charges a low rent. Do you think there might be a correlation in there somewhere?

He has a tenant that doesn't clean or even flush the toilet - is this because of tight fisted behaviour or just a slob? I know - why not pee in the sink or just out of a window?
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.

Yes, she doesn't like spending money on flush, but he is 'typical landlord' who won't do anything fast that costs him money...

I hear peeing in the garden actually helps the plants.. saving money on plant food??:rotfl:

But it has to be diluted.

Do you shower or have a bath? If bath you can use the bath water to flush your toilet more often, put it in a bucket or plastic basin, hold it high and pour down toilet. If you wash your dishes by hand and the water is not greasy, again pour it down the toilet. Can you capture rain water? Again, down the toilet.

Limescale is Alkali, so is bleach so it will have no effect, you need a decent loo cleaner such as Harpic Max which is Hydrochloric Acid, or Vinegar, but thats not as strong so you will need several cupfulls. As wee is also acid so in theory you could just not flush for a wee, but not very pleasant!

OP has tried that and it didn't work.

How about acquiring sachets of vinegar from fish and chip shops? ;)

But if it really is uric acid crystallising out on the ceramic, then an alkali would be better. The OP could try popping a dishwasher tab in from time to time.

You can get Toilet Tablets - these are large chunks of chemicals designed specifically for removing limescale and other encrusted dirt below the water-line.

    I've seen/tried two brands:

    - Poundland, 8 tablets
    - Harpic, 8 tablets at around £2.75

They both do the job. Predictably the Harpic ones are larger and more effective. If you have the time for multiple applications, though, PL is just over a third of the price.

In the old days, you would have emptied the toilet of water and applied other cleaners, de-scalers and home remedies to do this job. (The tablets are a whole lot easier than that).

Follow the same if it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow. We use bleach every 3 or 4 days and this shifts the limescale build up.

    Bleach doesn't remove limescale ;)
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

...but it might "bleach" the stains in the lime scale, making the lime scale nice and clean!
