Oh how exciting Ruby! Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. Along with the food, could you perhaps have a quick wardrobe declutter and see if there's some bits that could go on Vinted or eBay and towards the moving costs?"You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

Thanks SC, but yes very nerve wracking, especially when I realised that we're going to have to buy a fridge/freezer as the new property doesn't have one so that's another expense to add to the list.
Completed our new mortgage application last night and will be dropping off the purchase paperwork to the solicitors this afternoon. They had the paperwork from us for the sale weeks ago so I'm just hoping that both survey's turn out ok and we can pull this all together relatively easily 🤞 (famous last words 🤣)Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20174 -
Happy pay day to me. Money shuffle has been done and savings are looking relatively healthy for the moment. I did make an order for some skincare replacements that I'm almost out of and while I was going to order a cheaper alternative to my usual serum, I found a discount code online that made my usual one more cost effective per ml and essentially cheaper than buying the same amount of the cheaper alternative. The maths made sense in my head anyway!
This weekend hopefully won't be too expensive; we're off to see some friends tomorrow to celebrate a birthday so I've made a cake (to use up some of the baking stuff in the cupboard) and we bought a little gift back from South Africa. We're also taking our own lunch with us to save some more pennies. Sunday we're going out for lunch with my parents to celebrate their birthdays and have budgeted for this already. Then Monday is the great kitchen declutter / sort out. I already know there's a few things that we can get rid of quite easily that we no longer need or use. If I have time, I might also try to tackle some of my books that I know I want to get rid of. Will try and sell them on Ziffit, then offer to my book club friend's and finally will donate to charity.

New mortgage application has been approved 🥳🥳🥳 Now we wait for the paperwork from the bank while I silently cry at the new monthly payments 😆 Survey is happening on the house we're buying as I type so should hear about that next week and I've just got some quotes for buildings and contents insurance and looks to be the same as what we've paid for our current house so that's good!
It may have been just over a week since we all confirmed offers etc. but starting to get a little antsy that we haven't heard anything from our buyers about arranging a survey but guessing they're just going through the motions with their mortgage provider. I just want things locked in, I don't want any surprises, I don't want this to fall apart as my nerves wouldn't be able to handle it.
Weekend was very low spend as my dad insisted on paying for lunch on Sunday and managed to declutter a fair few things from the kitchen. Still have the books to attempt to go through this coming weekend.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20175 -
Congratulations Ruby I hope it all goes smoothly for you!
I listed my house last week for sale. We had one viewing and one full price offer in the first week....so we have actually delayed any other viewings allowing them to get their finances in order and not be panicking. I understand what it's like to be young, can't up the offer if someone else offered more and getting into a heartbreaking bidding war and lose (aye I been there) so I'm hoping our buyers have the finances now to follow through 😆 ....and to be honest it was really stressful trying to keep your house looking like a show room and like the pictures online (and let's face it most of our stuff was in cupboards that came straight back out after pics so it already looked different 🙈).
We've also found a house and had an offer accepted. We looked at a probate house (3 actually!) and loved one ...but wow the work needed on it would have cost another 100k easy so we had to let that one go...
Fingers crossed for us both for an easy transaction (guy selling to us needs to find somewhere still though so we have a bit of a chain going on!)MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. Wow that's great @debtfreewannabe321 - hoping your chain comes together soon! I know what you mean about the stress of keeping the house looking good, although now I've let it get a little too relaxed so will need to get the place cleaned and tidied this weekend 🤣

Had our survey report back and nothing that we weren't expecting so that's good 👍 Just lots of "needs updating" comments and suggestion of a better way to manage the guttering / drainage on the garage roof. Have a few queries to send through the solicitors around when the extension was built and how much of a re-wire was done but nothing that's going to stop us from proceeding.
Heard back from our agent yesterday to say that our buyers have had their mortgage approved and aren't going to have a survey done 🤷♀️. So the draft contract has gone over to them and we're just waiting for one search to come back and then our solicitors will send the pack over to us. But since we're moving up the road, we kind of know what to expect. Because I love a list, we've started a new spreadsheet listing out room by room what we want / need to do and trying to prioritise it. It's helping to stop me from getting to carried away with looking at new bathrooms and sofas etc. 🤣
On the money front, DH won £200 on the premium bonds but nothing for me this month yet again. We also made a small OP to the mortgage just to chip away at it a little bit more but also give us a little more in the slush fund for any unexpected costs.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20173 -
Confirmation of mortgage offer received today and spent a large part of last night getting bank statements together for proof of funds for our purchase. One of the problems was I have a lot of bank accounts because I like to keep money separately for different reasons and they aren't all connected to each other because I've never been bothered to do that for some reason. So money might go through 2 accounts before it gets to my savings account which to some might look like money laundering 🤣🤣🤣 So lesson learnt for when we move - try and tidy up standing orders etc. so I don't have to go through this all again!
DH is working away in Manchester for the rest of the week but I get to meet up with him tomorrow night as I'm also in the city for a work event; we've been nominated for 2 awards and a national ceremony and I drew the short straw to represent us. Luckily I have a couple of dresses that are suitable for the black tie dress code but just need to work out which one I'm going to wear. Going to take my own packed lunch with me to eat on the train to save some pennies where I can.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20173
